I do like both, but I prefer the photos. Like I saw a lot of other people say, the effort involved with getting the photos give them a lot of meaning and I love how you can place them in different ways, and customize the frame, and how you can interact with them to get the villager's quote and such! That said, while I haven't always gone through the trouble of getting the photos for every villager I've had (though I have been doing that now, since I pick ones I like), I always make it a point to take my villagers to Harv's island so I can unlock their poster too. I like how the posters are a bit bigger so you can see their picture/pose better. I would have liked to have gotten the posters for all the villagers I've had, but I didn't know that was something you could do for an unfortunately long time. ^^;

Wow I am surprised so many people picked Photos over Posters and from all the replies I seen I can see why. Now that I think about it, it is a cheap way of getting posters just by going to Harvs island and getting them. I remember last year there was a way to catalog posters and it will be able to be bought in your Nook Shopping, but Nintendo has since patched that out so now you are unable to get any posters when cataloging from someone else.

Here is the thing there are posters of the missing NPCs still in the game and how they are obtained is from their Amiibo Cards, but for some reason some of them don't work like Resetti for example. I am not sure how someone was able to get that, because my friend told me that they got all of the posters from someone else and she was able to catalog all of them before Nintendo patched it out. So that really surprises me how there is no special NPC Photos for the rest of them. The only ones we have at the moment are Tom Nook, Isabelle, Timmy/Tommy, Jingle, and most recently Rover.

This kinda makes me wonder if some of the missing NPCs that still have their posters but are not in the game could be a hint that they could come back in future, but we don't know when though. Just something I would mentioned since posters are not talked about as much.

I've voted posters - I do like getting photos but so far only have Marina's! My reason for liking posters is that for me, I like to have a record of every villager that's been on my island - in NL I kept a document on my DS with each name written down when they moved out but got very tedious especially trying to handwrite neatly with the stylus and then running out of space haha. In an ideal world a photo of everyone would be great, but it would make the game become too stressful for me, not being able to move out villagers until getting their photo especially if I'm in a hurry to move someone out. I love having posters as an option as they're so easy to obtain, but glad they've still kept in photos as they're more of an achievement and I don't feel the posters devalue that. Interesting question, thanks!

I prefer posters. Like you, RoxasFan20, I dislike how the photos takes so long to get. And I have amiibo for posters. And there’s a another way to get posters. Just go to Harvy’s island and plop in villagers down from your island and you don’t need actual Amiibo. Lol

They won’t work, but as Harvey said, he adds the posters of the npcs that cannot visit the studio who you scan to the poster tab in the shopping app. After the patch, even if people catalogued the posters, they now can no longer order them from the catalogue. I had a cataloguing event and boy did that patch tick me off and it still stings. I had a lot of people help me with the posters I was missing.

We also have Franklin, Leif, Kick, Jack, Pave, Pascal, Gulliver and all the Ables Sister, Reese, Cyrus, Redd.

This has been known for several months.

I prefer the posters. I like that when I collect a new one, it stays in my catalog where I can order it later. I like that it give me an excuse to go Island hopping for new villagers to collect their poster. I don’t really like that the photos take up space elsewhere because I’m not into them enough to decorate with. They’re also such a grind to get and I’m not into that. I get impatient when I can’t find a villager right away, then I have to check houses, the museum and shops. I would get burned out with the game doing that, which I don’t want to happen. I prefer to get my photos from my permanent villagers only and I’ll get them naturally with time. I think it makes it more special and a surprise when I get one. My permanent villagers mean a lot to me so I have no problem putting out their photo.

Photos. Getting the poster from Harvey island is too easy when you have all the amiibo cards.
The last 2 months Player 2 started gifting non native fruit. She got her 10th photo last night.

That makes no sense. I don't know how Harv adds the posters of the npcs that "cannot" visit the studio. Thats kinda strange considering that Reese and Cyrus are the only Special NPCs that we saw that were at his island just for the Wedding Event. I don't know it just seems weird to me.

If you want an explanation, ask Nintendo, though i doubt they’ll tell you. I do think the way they planned things is a bit weird, but to me it would make less sense to not get a poster from them regardless if the character can be summoned or not since scanning the cards or inviting villagers with the amiibo card to the studio does. Why would they add only some character’s posters to the database when making the posters and then later have more work to do to add them? I don’t know. I’m the consumer and the only thing I want to know is why did they not fix the patch right away before it was exploited if they did not want people to catalogue and order posters without having the amiibo themselves?

Not trying to get into a rant but Nintendo really is very weird with their planning and sometimes the things they do are very weird and it kinda makes you wonder if they could've done this a different way.

I was never adamant about getting their pictures in any of the other games, so with this one I don't really lean one way or the other. I think I have something between 2-4 pictures and that's me not actively trying to get my main villagers pictures. I never put them out either, but I remember in NL that they really boosted the HHA points, so when I get all of them I will probably throw them out somewhere just to boost my house rating.

It's cool to have posters for those that just want the villager's likeness and don't want to go through all trouble and the pictures are their for those who want more of a challenge. It's the best of both worlds.

The posters are cool but I love the customizable frames and smaller sizes of the photos, not to mention a feeling of accomplishment when you get the photo AND the quote.

I put both. In general I think I prefer the photos, I like that they can be placed on surfaces and the customizable frames. However there are some villager images that just look really good as posters, Kid Cat has a really great poster for example.

I like both. Photos mean a lot, I was so excited when Melba gave me her photo- my very first photo ever. It just felt nice. They are also more versatile and the little sayings? Sublime. Posters on the other hand are kind of nicer to look at thanks to their size. And they also feature some NPC that don't have photos and that's so awesome. Like... Gulliver's Poster is one of my favorite items of the whole game.

I also think it's just so cool how NH has all these nice poses and things for these things. Like how Boots and Bianca are not using their standard outfit or how Chadder has an amazing background and pose. Love it.
