I really wish they would make the cranky villagers mean and snooty mean like in GameCube in this game. It was so funny. I know they probably won?t do that for this game, but it made the villagers differ from one another. So yeah I miss the verbal abuse from the villagers lol.

Anyone agree?

I doubt they'll ever make them that mean again, though I'd certainly love it if they did. At the very least, all the current personalities need a wider variety of dialogue.

yes please! in older games it felt much more like each villager was distinct. while you can often tell a villager's personality by their dialogue, there are a lot of cases in new leaf where it was hard to know unless you looked it up. i know this is a common complaint but the dialogue options were very limited and felt samey.

the wacky animal villagers are part of animal crossing's main appeal. it's in the title!

not to be a "back in my day" type but in the older games it felt like certain villagers also had little personality quirks distinct to them. i'm not sure if it's just because of the absolutely massive amounts of dialogue or if it's just the nostalgia talking but i remembering it taking YEARS of daily play before i could recognize every surprise quiz, letter, and dialogue tree.

i know in new leaf nintendo tried a lot of new things and the community rejoiced. that must have been hard to balance. i just hope we get back some of that classic "animal crossing" dialogue. it was weird and funny and sometimes downright mean, but it had it's own flare. and a lot of the time it made you smile in its ridiculousness.

TL;DR let villagers be jerks!

I don't think they will make them that mean again, but I do hope they make them somewhat more mean than new leaf. They need more depth. the villagers in new leaf were very hollow.

Part of me hopes so much they go back to the roots and bring back the mean villagers with their sassy
dialogue. It was in fact funny to have a villager who was all savage when talking to you. And even if
they not gonna return to the roots, I hope they change at least the villagers in some ways and also
give them better dialogue, like you know, an improvement after how watered down they were in NL.

I really just hope dialogue is deep and varied. As long as building up a friendship with villagers has noticeable effects, I'll be happy. I doubt villagers will be as mean as in the Gamecube with upset parents and this and that, but a return to Wild World-esque dialogue would satisfy me. That being said, I do think it'll be easier to see a progression with friendship in snooty/cranky villagers if they start out really mean and warm up to you over time.

I sincerely doubt they'll be nearly as mean as PG - not that I ever played, so I don't actually know how mean they were, but in the interview where they announced Resetti's getting a new job, they brought up the thing with "young female fans" being scared by him and whatnot.

Also, again can't really compare with PG, and I don't remember how it was in WW and CF, but I've never really had much of a problem with recognizing personality types.

What might be cool, though, would be them responding to how you treat them. They'd start out neutral, and if you became friends with them normally, would become more and more friendly with you. But if you're mean to them, they're mean in return.

Oh man, I miss the actual sassiness of the old days. Even in Wild World, the crankies and snooties had their low-key meanness and I miss that. I can still remember when Chow in my WW town started being nicer to me. It made me feel accomplished!

I never experienced the older games but I would LOVE if some of my villagers were bullies and were mean to me and other villagers until they warmed up to you.

I would like the villagers to be meaner like in the original Animal Crossing.
Like in wild world, they get happy, sad or angry when they finish saying a sentence.
also you push them together to let them talk to each other, even not on a bridge

I never played the original Gamecube, but I did watch some videos of somebody playing it and I do agree. A little more meanness and personality would be nice. Also, the dialogue in New Leaf was so flat and just kept repeating over and over again to the point I think that's why I stopped playing it for awhile. Hopefully it will be much better in the new game and maybe all the villagers and not just the snooties and crankies will have more personality.

I really hope they bring back some of the depth villagers used to have, but I highly doubt it. As the games progress they seem to be making them friendlier and friendlier. I don't mind the villagers being friendly, but they are just so friendly that they have no other personality. I have a hard time getting attached to animals in New Leaf because they are like cardboard.

I want funny, interesting and even the old abusive dialogue from Wild World, plus enough new material that in a year, I'll still be surprised.
