I know, clickbaity title, but I swear it's because I couldn't think of a great way to describe this conundrum I'm having.

So I have played AC since Gamecube and played every mainline game except WW. I remember being a kid and playing the original and then City Folk ALL THE TIME. But then before NH came out, I went back to those games and partook in events that I never experienced like Toy Day, Festivale, Bunny Day, Fishing Tournaments, and others. This is strange because I remember so clearly playing these games for months and yet I hadn't experienced any of these events.

This is when I realized that maybe my nostalgia for these games had really skewed my memory for them and what felt like months of playing as a 7th or 8th grade kid, was actually only two or three weeks before dropping the game until the next one came out.

I know I played NL way more and actually for months because I was in college when I got it, but the previous games...did I actually only play for a few weeks and then my memory was overtaken by nostalgia making me think it was a formative part of my childhood?

Has anyone else experienced this with AC or even any other game?

I had new leaf for many years and while I was always there for festival, New Years, and toy day I seem to have missed other events like the fireworks shows and only saw bunny day in new leaf this year. I guess I kinda just played whenever I had the time

Yeah something about the spring and summer made me play the games a lot less. I mean probably because it was nice outside, but ACNH is definitely the first time I'm really experiencing an Animal Crossing summer.

New leaf was the first game I remember since I"m a baby adult but I definitely missed a lot of the events until recent years

I also recall having specific villagers when I think they may have only stay in my town for less than a month! Nostalgia is a crazy thing

I do remember the Halloween event back in the GC version of AC. Well, it wasn't really an "event" in my eyes as moreso just Halloween? It was the first AC I ever played and oddly, my memories of it are a bit fuzzy. I only remember really just writing in my journal, sending letters to villagers, building my home and constantly dumping things in the dump lol

I can't really recall events in WW? Oddly, I only remember ever just slinging my slingshot in the air and drawing constellations for Celeste lol I

I played a ton of Wild World when I was a kid. I logged on every day, did all the daylies, had my house upgraded, everything. I visit back every so often, just to see my old town. I was chceking through the stuff I had, but for some reason when I checked through my fish encyclopedia I was missing one more fish. I looked it up online and found it was the jellyfish, which only shows up in August. This means I must've never played in August (that I can remember) because I know I would have caught one. I guess this makes sense looking back now, school starts for us in August, but I was seriously surprised after years of playing I would keep missing the same month. I also never saw the Fireworks show.

i missed the GC game since i was just a smol bab but i did have both WW and CF and played them regularly, although i definitely played WW more due to it being on a handheld. i don't think i played then as diligently as i played NL and now NH (i.e. catching all the creatures) though since i was young.

i don't remember the holidays either but i think that's largely down to a) WW not having holidays (iirc) and b) those holidays corresponding with the real world ones which i was too busy engaging in. nowadays i would have the time to play AC holidays because i'm "too old" to take part at all or very much irl. back then though, i would've been too busy trick or treating, finding easter eggs and enjoying my christmas presents to even think about the AC equivalents let alone play them.

slightly off topic but i have very vivid memories of catching villagers' house keys in CF and i highkey wish they'd bring that little feature back lmao.

Not at the current moment, but only because I don't have access to a switch anymore. I've been considering starting a GameCube town with my roommate.

I've only played New Leaf but for the first few months of being addicted to the game, I didn't get to do most of the holidays (mainly cuz I wasn't using guides at all and wasn't part of the community so i had no idea). Then i picked it up again after the Welcome Amiibo update years later and finally joined the forum and started playing online and getting info about the holidays. So I actually got to experience everything, years after I started my town.

Think I misinterpreted the purpose of the thread before. Back on the GameCube I played religiously for years, even well I to Wild World and City Folks lifespans. I never cared for WE or CF, and New Leaf was the first game to get me to move past the first game.

My first game was WW, but I only got to play it for a bit, which was on my cousins Ds.
Although I got to play it again a bit on an emulator.
I did play NL more though.

Yes l really did and l still play WW, Forest, CF, NL and let's just say l played all the games. But l don't like NH so l stopped and trash the island and went back to the old games.

Not really, I have a really bad habit of completely throwing myself into a game and then forgetting about it entirely when burn out hits. I’ve been working on it as I’m getting older but I honestly don’t think younger me played new leaf for anything more than a month
