I will make this all pretty later and probably add a more clever name lol

Anyways, this gallery is meant for some of the pictures I made using the app Colors! on 3DS.

I do use references in a handful of my pictures. I have a few though I've stepped away from the reference photo for, and i have a few in the works. I also prefer realism pictures. Anyways, enjoy!

Some of my pictures are slightly provocative. None of them show actual nudity. They are all covered. Some were also requests. Anyways, I put those into spoilers. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Assume there was a reference used unless I otherwise stated.

No reference was used for this picture:

Cliff Burton of Metallica.

Keeley Hazell

This one needs fixed. Mostly in the face area with the skin tones and some of the lines. Maybe one day!

Keeley Hazell - I have a few versions of this. I have another one with a light I added and I added to her arm. I will have to grab it from my colors gallery

These next few are all of my hybrid animals. These all used a reference photo. I will finish up the ones that I didn't use a reference photo for sometime when I have the time.

The rest of these are just randomly put. Again, not all of them.

This one by far is my favorite one I have done. This was my first realism photo I attempted on 3DS.

Its an altered picture of myself

Like I said, I have TONS more, I just have to upload them or pull them from my Colors! Gallery. I have them all on my Facebook, so its easier for me to show them to people. Haven't added them all from Facebook though, or all from my gallery to Facebook yet. Anyways, any comments are appreciated! Again, I will pretty up this thread soon.

Whoaaa dude, you're awesome! Love the mixed-up animals!
And metallica \m/

Your attempts with the "photo realism" really isn't impressive at all to be honest. using reference does not mean to trace everything. it is wayy too obvious to tell which ones are "referenced", and which ones are not. (yes, I understand you pointed out which ones are which)

my advice? stay away from that camera reference app, it really does no justice at all. If you look at the horrid Colors 3D community, you see these traced drawings everywhere; they're nothing special.

look at the reference picture on a different screen or paper, then try to replicate it without tracing. this will help you improve much faster.

as for general criticism to your non traced drawings, you're afraid of using dark darks. you need to use some darker colors to push your lights forward. your color pallet is also extremely dull and makes everything looks all smudged up. learn about color theory, it's amazing how mastering it can make an individual stand out from the rest.

Feel free to ask for help if you need it.

Actually, none of my pictures are traced. If I had posted the playbacks of my pictures, you would see that none of them are traced. Most of them were used as a reference, simply for the colors.

The playbacks do not show the reference pictures being used. By "simply used for the colors", do you mean that you take the color directly from the reference picture via eyedrop tool and slap it on top? In my opinion, that's still a form of tracing. Many Colors 3Ds! users do that.

No, the playbacks show the sketch and everything.

But yes, I do take a few major colors after my main sketch... and then shade it on my own

These pictures are awesome, especially the hybrid animal ones (Loved the clownfish +Rhino and Shark +Sparrow). Is the app free, where can I get it, and the same question for the camera reference app that sharkstache mentioned?

The only constructive criticism I could give is some of the pictures (Like Cliff Burton) are a little blurry in parts.
