my 3-year-old tablet has been slowly dying on me the last couple of weeks, so i've been in the market for a new one. the two i've been looking at are the slightly older model, the cl480, and the newest intuos, the cl490. and when comparing them i noticed something

the newest model intuos is so ugly.

like what's up with the wonky shortcut keys?? why are they tilted like that? what is the purpose of having a dot grid on the active area when you're gonna be looking at the screen most of the time anyway? why does it look like it's made of really cheap plastic??
the older model looks so much more sleek and professional and is honestly probably more sturdily made. even bamboo tablets were better designed.

also, i still don't agree with the name change from bamboo to intuos when the latter has always been exclusively attributed to their professional line of products. it's confusing and dupes people into believing there's been an improvement in quality when the specs for the basic models have been the same for years.

someone pls end wacom's monopoly on pen input tablets thnx

Bamboo is now just trackpads lol. I have the intuos model before the one that's currently available, and yeah, it looks nicer. I'm glad I got it earlier

just get an intous5 then?? and not get a new intous
but i agree they look ugly

that's???? what i'm doing??????
i was hoping the context clues made that clear but apparently not

honestly yeah lmao. i mean there's nothing bad with catering to the common people since it drives prices down but this is just ugly. they didn't compromise on design quality before idk why they're doing it now.

I have an Intuos4 and when I lost my pen last year I thought I was in the market to upgrade to a newer Intuos and boyyy was I confused. The modern equivalent to that tablet is probably the Intuos Pro, which I thought was odd. x_x

But now when people ask me what tablet I'm using and I respond "Intuos", they would ask "is it the draw/pro/photo/art/comic/etc?" and I'm like what. ._.

I got my boyfriend a tablet from Huion so he could play Osu!, but I noticed that the specs aren't actually half bad. It was a pretty small one but the pressure sensitivity for example is the same as my Wacom Pro which makes it better than my old Bamboo already lol (plus it was only $30). Wacom does indeed seem to have a monopoly on graphics tablets but for those looking for something else, Huion may be a good choice

i've looked into huion actually!! their tablets are pretty cheap and have comparable specs to the intuos pro, but i've only heard of them in niche circles and people have reported driver issues and tablets breaking a few months in, so idk if i wanna take the plunge just yet.
i'm perfectly fine with a basic wacom for now, but i might look into one of their screen displays for when i graduate. there's just no sense in investing in one now seeing as my uni offers a cintiq lab.

My friend has a Huion and she can hardly get any driver to work, so she just got Wacom in the end lol

yeah they changed the names around. it's extremely confusing. i can imagine several disappointed kids at christmas time, but it's not like beginners need a pro edition anyway.

and omg ikr! there's just so many. i just go by model numbers now, it's much easier.
also, half the time it's the same tablet that comes bundled with different software, which is usually godawful anyway. i think one of them comes with a code for sketchbook express, which is not only free online but also somehow even more awful than gimp.

yeah, i've heard of lots of people having all sorts of issues with huion, so i'm wary.
on the flip side, though, my old wacom bamboo CL-460 and 470, both of which are basically the same model, had driver issues with windows 7 for YEARS. it was never fixed, and it only stopped when i upgraded to W8. the pen pressure would give out every so often and i'd have to go and dump preference files and restart SAI.
