Display the items in villagers home

I just noticed that gifted item to the villagers, they do display them in their house and when they buy the item from your inventory
They won’t display them . Just now Diana brought a revolving spice rack from me and I checked it in her house she didn’t display it,
ThatI learned something new today.

I think it may be a case-by-case basis. I recently sold something to Hazel (a cushion) and she ended up displaying it in her house.

Her dialogue was something about wanting it to send as a gift for a friend back home, so I decided to sell it to her thinking she wasn't going to keep it and then she did

The general rule of thumb I always tell people is if you don't want your villager to display something (a bug/fish, a piece of furniture, etc), it's usually best not to sell or catch it for them just to be safe because the furniture system is a little unpredictable at times.

From what I understand villagers don't display items on the same day. You'll need to wait until tomorrow.

Could be just random then.

It does seem pretty random, some items I've agreed to sell to villagers have never been seen again but the handcart I sold to Fauna and the garbage can Goldie was desperate to buy were proudly displayed in their homes

I gave Wolfgang a waistcoat, and he has two on display.

An early game glitch that's never been fixed.

I've just given up trying to make their houses look nice at all, because beyond displaying gifts/purchased items at random, they also seem to get rid of default furniture at random and just... don't replace it with anything. Kiki's velvet stool has been MIA for weeks and I've never given her anything that would have replaced it
