Do Villagers that leave vacate their spot?

Sorry, I wasn't sure what to name the thread. orz;
Usually, when people leave in WW or CF, they don't have the house anymore but a sign post. I'm wondering if that will happen to NL too. A villager told me that he was leaving, and the villager's house spot was the perfect spot where I wanted. I'm wondering if he leaves and a new villager comes in, will the new villager take his spot or will they take a different spot on the map?

When a villager leaves the house will disappear and the grass will be dead in that area.
Sometimes when a new villager moves in it'll take that spot. Other times it will move into a completely different area.
