Do you "cheat" for the Fishing Tourney?

I'm curious about how people go about the Fishing Tourney. Do you just participate in it naturally and try to catch the biggest fish you can on the day of the tourney? Do you try to catch fish before the tourney starts so you have an advantage? Do you try to give Chip a large fish at the last minute before it ends to make sure you finish first? Do you set the clock a few minutes back to reset the record to get most of the fish set items in one day?

I don't have the patience to get the fish set over several months, so I just used the clock trick to get as many of the items as I could today (for some reason, you can only get half of the items in the set in one Fishing Tourney). I don't really care about which trophy I get because getting gold is pretty easy. It's actually harder to get the silver and bronze trophies because you have to get a fish that's big, but not bigger than everyone else's fish.

I do the same thing, although I like to build towards it so I can get the prizes that Chip gives out because I haven't received all of them yet.

Although today he asked for sea bass and in the last 5 minutes I figured no one would beat me so I went to sell my catches at Re-tail... I go for the awards ceremony and Angus beats me with a sea bass that measures .15 inches more than mine.

I don't care that much for the items so I just do it for fun, so, I tend to do it rather legitimately haha

I've done it a few times before. I'd go to the island and catch some sharks the night before. Now I rarely bother with the tourneys because they're kind of boring.

No. I start just before 5pm and try to catch some fish. I'm usually inside bugging the villagers to get them to gossip about a mover or just rumor talk.

Early on friends went to the island and caught fish in different sizes for the fishing tournament.
Used the museum to keep them in order.

Sometimes I'll go catch a whale shark the day of the tourney and submit it so no one will beat me xD but I don't usually bother with it. I'd rather sell what I catch than watch a beaver eat it all and burp in my face...
