Have you ever agreed to decorate a villagers home, only to later have no idea what to do? I've gotten that way lately. Sometimes I can kind of figure something that works out, but other times I just sit there completely lost. I've even had to cancel a few times, simply because I couldn't find any furniture sets that work with what they want. Peanut was this way. She wants an American themed house, but I couldn't really think of any furniture that fit with the kitschy clock and whatever else she wanted in her home.
What do you do when you get in a position like this?
If i get stuck I'll just accept the design and go back later after I've unlocked more items. This usually works out fine since i like upgrading them to bigger rooms anyways
I had that with Sprinkle and Olaf's room (I really like how I managed to make his garden look though)
At some point I decorated it a bit and then went like, ok, wat now? I think they're still a bit plain.
BUt like Fink says, once I have more stuff, I will probably go back to re-decorate them!!
Same as with Harriet's house. I still need to re-decorate that one since I made it pretty early in the game so it's kinda boring.
I do sometimes feel stuck or I'm not into the theme. I haven't yet cancelled, though. You could try a couple of things:
Throw in what they want and "complete" the design so you can unlock the new furniture they have, then go back later and redesign when you're feeling more inspired or have unlocked more furniture that speaks to you. The beauty of doing this is that, after your first job for them, you're not required to include the items they asked for the first time. Kitschy clock problem solved!
Do an online search to find real-life rooms with that theme. E.g., search for "American country furniture" or something similar and you might find some ideas. A Japanese player has been posting pix of real rooms to twitter, followed by a pic of their in-game interpretations.
The catalogue search feature in HHD, while not perfect, is better than it was in AC:NL. They appear to be using tags now, so if you search for "zen", for example, items will come up that don't actually have "zen" in the name. Some searches might not come back with results, but it's worth a try.
Hunt for some cool QR codes and see if you can find anything that would work.
