Do you free design things?

I know in the game your usually suppose to
create a house how the villager wants you to in a theme
But do you ever just ignore the theme and just design?
Have you ever designed a house as if it was your own and
then trie to incorperate that house the same in acnl?

I only free-design after I finish off a villager's house. To me, there's something that's not right about not doing the theme that the villager asks you to do, so I make sure to do that first and then free-design later.

I only free design after I designed the house and everything! It's really fun tho!
