Unless your 3DS is about to break, I say it's best to wait until the Switch. There's almost nothing exclusive to the New 3DS, and the power button is in an odd spot. Doing a system transfer is difficult too. I was fine just sticking with my 2DS, but it's up to you.
The sale is almost over. Theyre only I couple more stores that still have it in stock. Luckily my dad and I are going to one that still has them. If not we will just get a bundle.
You should wait a bit to get a new 3ds, unless yours doesn't work to well. The new 3ds doesn't have a ton more features, it's mainly just faster and things moved around a bit. So basically, unless your old 3ds is not working the best, stick to it.
I still have an old 3DS XL. My brother bought a new 3DS XL in order to get a bigger screen since he only had the old regular 3DS. I asked him what was different and it's literally nothing, expect for the two (?) version exclusives and Smash's loading time. That's it. Games still lag and have frame rate drops like on the old systems. I'd say wait for the switch. I wouldnt buy the same handheld twice.

Were you able to get one? Literally waited in line at a GameStop the morning of Black Friday to pick one up for my sister from 4:00 a.m. to 5:15 a.m. and they only had 4 Black and 1 White.
I have the original metallic red 3ds, and the New 3ds HHD XL, the XL is so much better than the original, it feels like playing on a whole new console, if you have the money to spare I can recommend it.
I upgraded my 3DS because I've had it for close to 5 years. It was still in good condition, but I still wanted an upgrade. I gave my old one to my daughter, and I bought myself the New Galaxy 3DS XL. No regrets. :3
As someone who use a New 3DS XL, I'd recommend keeping your older 3DS model if it still works fine. The New 3DS models are simply too expensive to justify upgrading your hardware for little benefit.
Its already gigantic gaming library would pretty much have you covered for quite a long while, even if Nintendo Switch lacked games you wanted to play during its first year. Granted, you would miss a very few exclusive New 3DS titles and select SNES games, but it's not a huge deal if all you care are the essential titles that aren't Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.
There's a number of improvements to the New 3DS models that mostly serves to enhance your experience, such as the Super-Stable 3D effect, faster processing power and built-in amiibo integration. But then again, you don't really need those features to begin with.
The C-stick and new contorls thingy are not worth it. I have not used it once in a single game, and I have over 30.
The only reason you might want to get a new 3ds is for the 3D, which currently followed your eyes and has the ability to track you so that 3D stays consistant to you. If you don't care about 3D, then don't get a new 3DS.
I'd say it depends on what you use your 3DS for. If you're constantly switching in and out of different apps, frequently using the 3D and using amiibo with your games, it's worth considering. Personally I wouldn't say it's worth it.
