I don't, really.
People who use it like it's bad to be a nerd have problems, either because they're jealous, or they want someone to pick on.

I use the word like it's a normal or good thing.

it depends on who says it and the tone mainly, but no, i'm fine with being a nerd.

Nerd is an insult, that is how it's described in the dictionary and that's the way it'll most likely stay.

Nerd is a term that refers to a person who avidly pursues intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities. It often carries a derogatory connotation or stereotype. The nerd may be awkward, shy and unattractive. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers, or will tend to associate with like-minded people.
nerd [nurd]
?noun Slang .
1. a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
2. an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

That's not to say that the insult itself is a stupid one, and one that in my experience is only used by kids under the age of 13 who don't have developed brains to think of a better way to insult somebody.

I'm called a nerd, yet I am extremely social and demanding and getting extreme attention.
I am awkward, in a spontaneous way.
I have an extreme party nature.
I do not like very physical activities, except for some, of course.

Semi-nerd, I guess.

Meh, I don't really care when people call me a nerd. You get used to it after a while, and you just start ignoring it.

Why ignore?

Some guy: Lol stupid nerd
Me: Nerd means I am smart. You called me stupid. Oxymoron, I guess?
Some guy: YOU CALLED ME MORON YOU NERD
Me: Thanks, I enjoy being a nerd.
Some guy: RAEG

Nerd in itself does not mean that you are smart.

My best friend considers being called a nerd a compliment. I think it all comes down to the intentions. Most people don't call others "nerds" as a true vilification, but more of an innocent tease nowadays.

No, but I hate how it's being used nowadays.

"I GOT 100% IN MILEY CYRUS ON GUITAR HERO VIEDO GAEM. I'M SO NERDY LOLXDD"

"Oh, here's your problem, you're trying to open a Microsoft Word 2007 document in Microsoft Word 2003."
"So they're not compatible?"
"No, unless you convert the file to be useable in Word 2003. It's like putting a DVD in a CD player. It won't work."
"OH OKAY, IT'S A GOOD THING I HAVE YOU NERD BUDDY XD"

"The reason why your DVD player's not showing anything is because you got the AV cables mixed up."
"HOW WOULD YOU KNO THAT? U SO NERDY XDDD"

I've kind of embraced my nerdness at this point.

Though I'm just smart, I'm not really "obsessed" with anything.

And also, it's usually referred to someone when they have an "interesting" hobby. For example, I will forever be, the science nerd because my hobby is science olympiad.

p.s. wait why is this is the "basement"

Because we are all in the basement, with our laptops and a DS.

I'm not called a nerd. Ok, I spend the most time on video games/PCs etc than anyone I know.
I just happen to go to drinking parties and hang out with people when the oppurtunity arises.

I think nerd used to be derogatory, but like everything else in the English language, it changed meanings dramatically. Personally I think when people try to use the word 'nerd' as a slam nowadays, they just end up making themselves look stupid and not with the times.
