Does anyone else kind of regret terraforming?

Do you regret terraforming?

I finally unlocked the terraforming tools today and I was super excited to finally craft my dream island, but now that I’m partially done with my rivers I feel like it’s all a little too uniform and I miss the randomness of my original map.
Is anyone else feeling the same way? I mean everything looks nice, but I feel like there’s a certain charm to my original map that I should have tried harder to preserve instead of going crazy and changing the entire thing.

i agree! i originally changed it into these straight rivers but i realized it was too clean cut, so i completely am re doing it to something unique

I’m hoping that when I’m done with a majority of my terraforming everything will look semi-natural, but so far it’s proving to be a little difficult.. I wish I could just go back to the original island and start from there again, but oh well

I don't as I haven't been making too many big drastic changes, really! I've mostly just been messing with stuff little by little as I go, thinking "hey I need a bit more space for this" or "oh I want a waterfall here" etc and then doing it. I realized it would be much easier for me to get overwhelmed and regret what I changed if I did it any other way.

Nope. The river was really bad, and I cleaned it all up. It's much cleaner now, and navigating my town has never been more stress-free

I also get to do neat things, like build a small cliff to store the lighthouse on.

I haven't got my permits yet, but I'm worried about this! I've been using the Happy Island Designer to try to design a more 'natural looking' layout, but the reality is that I want to overhaul the entire island. What the end result will be like, who knows.

No, but I kind of held off on terraforming. I've done a bit with ponds and some jagged areas of the river. Otherwise, I'm just waiting till I expand my catalog/unlock recipes I want and have the items I want to build certain areas around.

No. I don't. I like it better when I have control over my surroundings and makes it open for more creativity. No more hacking needed for beautifying your island (like I did with New Leaf, I did play Wild World but I didn't get into it that much.)

Of course, I didn't exactly alter my island too much (esp the river direction) but I liked the fact I can make waterfalls on my own. Made me realize my desire to recreate Evergrande City from Pokemon RSE.

Smart! I think I mostly just decided to do too much too quickly and got very overwhelmed, but there’s nothing I can about it now.

Smart! That’s what I should have done, but I had some extra time on my hands and started doing more then I probably should have
I think it helps that I was mostly pretty happy with my original map tbh! At first I did get super annoyed with my river and tried changing it but I decided what I already had was mostly fine in the end, at least for now. If you're having trouble making yours look more natural/less uniform again maybe you could try looking at some screenshots of default maps and going by how they look?

I feel like it’s a common thing not to terraform too much in the beginning, which was kind of what I did anyways sadly. It’s mostly just my river though, straightening it out a ton and completely removing some extra parts that I’m just now realizing made my island unique and cool

I think I’ll do that, thanks!

I haven't done any yet, I'm too afraid that I'll mess something up and miss the way my island looked organically. I'm still trying to get a feel for how I want to place everything and what vibe I want my island to have. Right now I'm collecting furniture and stuff first so that I can kind of have an idea of what I can build and what I'd like to build before I do too much terraforming.

Well I mean, I kinda like how my river looks from the start, and the fact that I worked around it prior getting to do terraforming, I decided to do it on places that look pretty bare, and I don't regret that.
