Does anyone else overthink their villagers' Happy Home Paradise houses?

I always make two level houses with large rooms, and put everyone with a roommate I think they'd go good with. I always create a bathroom and a kitchen area, like no matter what. Decorating walls is the worst part because there isn't a lot of items that go with every aesthetic I choose for the homes, and I don't like looking at bare "naked" walls. I think so hard about how to design every single home that I wish I was getting paid for it LOL.

I spend an incredible amount of time on the homes... I don't know why but I feel so guilty when I skimp out on going all out on decorating.

Main villagers that I let live on my island, yes.

The hundreds of other randos, not so much.

I did overthink on the account with my island representative. Especially when I liked the villager but not the theme. Looking at you Lionel and Rowan. The outside was surprisingly harder to decorate than the inside though. Eventually they all ended up looking similar in way. In the end I would just ask myself, "Is this the best that I can do for now?" If I responded yes, then I would leave it at that.

Now that I'm trying to get the decorating features for two of my profiles, I'm not putting as much effort as before. I told myself that I would do the bare minimum from now on. Not gonna lie, yesterday it was hard following this new rule. Especially the garden.😅

I mean probably but I still enjoy the process. I really like problem solving and trying to find the best solution to get the idea across.

Usually I can't finish my designs in one sitting and I will save the progress if I feel stuck or I'm feeling tired.

It might depend on the villager, but I do try and take a long time to give them something nice. Though, due to not having everything, I know I can go back and make it actually how I wanted if I felt like I didn't have the right furniture.

if i like the theme that the villager gives me or if i have a really good idea for it then i definitely can spend like...an hour or so on a house + yard. but if i change my mind about a villager/get stuck or if they have a weird theme and i just want to get them off my beach then they're getting minimalism LOL

I started off with large 2 bedroom homes complete with a bed and a washing area, but after around 100 houses... I just create them whenever I have a little bit of spare time. 1 bedroom with a good level of effort, not too much effort is put into the outside, and only a roommate if I happen to be hit with inspiration.

I think I struggle now with the homes, since there are only so many coffee shops, music rooms and gardening homes that I can actually make before they all start looking the same. The other themes I'd like to put more effort into I can't, because there aren't enough unique items for them.

I did at the beginning. When the expansion first came out, I worked really hard on them. I wanted for them to look nice, and also to have a nice picture for the album. I got to about 13 homes and I was done with it. I wanted to be able to use my skills on my actual island, not the Happy Homes. Then I was just placing the minimum furniture and getting through it all up to the end. Now I’m able to customize my villager homes and two of my character homes to full capacity. I enjoy customizing my island more that the expansion.

every single time i start building i go in with the mindset that *this* is going to be the house that suddenly reveals my house designing potential, but then without fail i always get tired and frustrated halfway through and skimp out. i rarely make two level homes unless i have a really specific idea (e.g. just finished blanca's house which had a living room and kitchen downstairs, and a bedroom upstairs!) just because i don't know how to fill the space and have it look good. i do still enjoy HHP, even if i don't love all the themes

It depends on how much time I have! If I am in a time crunch, I will try and just stick to whatever the theme is and try to make it as organized as possible. However, if I have more free time, I will add extra levels/make more room space/play around with lighting and overall take more time with the layout. Normally if I am in a rush, I will just do the exterior one day and finish the rest whenever I go back to HHP island.

I try not to over think it too much because the whole point of HHP (to me at least) is to be creative with it and to have each theme be subjective (although you do have to include those required items). I see a lot of beautiful designs on Instagram and such, but I personally don't have the free time or creative willpower to make truly spectacular homes with lots of intricate details. So props to everyone who can pull that off!!
