Okay coming from someone who has invested over 300 hours into this game you would think I don't have too many nit picky issues about this game because I absolutely love the game and have been waiting 6-7 years for a new animal crossing release however, I feel that multiplayer is seriously lacking, especially with the new Nintendo online of having to even pay for it.

Don't get me wrong, I love playing multiplayer and I love the aspect of having to trade for certain things however, it feels... restrictive in many ways.
I personally hate the whole best friend's feature because although it allows other players to mess with your town, it's not to the full extent I think previous games allowed when having others come visit. At most when allowing someone best friend access you can dig, plant and do other basic things like fish, catch bugs, shop, sell and drop items. But my biggest pet peeve is that cutting down trees, or even hitting trees with a flimsy axe, or hitting a rock with a shovel is restricted only to the player who owns the island. I find this absolutely baffling, while also understandable for saving resources for the owner. I think it's a little dumb in my opinion that they didn't add different levels of restrictions and allowances for people in your town if they went as far as to add a best friend feature.

I recently bought my boyfriend a switch and he got a copy of the game so we could play together and I felt bad answering his questions.

"Can you help me place down furniture?"
" Can you help me chop my trees down?"
" You can come get materials from my rocks and trees"

To which I had to respond that I wasn't able to do these things even with best friend allowances. For collecting wood stacks on his island he would run around and I would pick everything up since I couldn't help.

I feel like there should be an option to allow people to do certain things:

Plant Trees/ Flowers / Dig Holes
Hit and break rocks
Hit and cut down trees
And even be able to help decorate someone's town by actually placing down item's if they allow you to
.

I feel like after playing New leaf for so long and having friends come over and help completely reform your town instead of doing it on your own is something that I'm missing the most of out game play. It just seems like the most you can do right now is work on your own town and when it's complete there isn't much to do otherwise. There's not that many mini games to even play with friends bedsides Fishing Tourney, Bug Off and playable events for holidays (when then are even restrictive due to not hitting trees and such for Bunny Day.

I just thought I'd ask around and see if anyone else is a little disappointed with these features and what you guys are doing when you have company over visiting your Islands. :)

i’m personally not disappointed with this but then again, i only play with others during trades lmao. tbh, i’m relieved that visitors can’t do everything they could in the past as imo, it’s safer to allow traders in as you don’t have to watch their every move to ensure they’re not doing something that they shouldn’t

Yeah I totally understand that from a trading aspect, but I still feel like there should be more options for the people that you are actually close with and want to play with :'0 ! Trading this way doesn't make a difference since there are no allowances to be made so no one can take or ruin anything like you said. I just wish for playing with friends and family there was more to do.

Personally, my pet peeves are it's 2020, and we still have what seems like the same multiplayer mechanics as Wild World.

- Unnecessary loading screens for players entering/leaving the town
- Limited gameplay
--- No moving home furniture when another player is in your home.
---No Bees/Wasps, or Scorpions and Tarantulas
---No Terraforming online
---No furniture moving/placing
--- No Nook shopping
--- Many more things

placing furniture is a big one for me! i was just in my sisters island and she couldn't place the stuff i brought her as long as i was there. super annoying:/

e: also what's up with the inability to use the abd??

Im pretty sure other people on your island can collect wood? i think ive done it before

You can actually do stuff inside your home as long as the other player isn't inside but yes i agree!

I agree! In NL you never had to worry about second trips for trading IGB, that honestly makes no sense to me.

They cannot hit the trees at all only pick up wood that has already been given from the tree if it's on the ground

I feel like for so long, Nintendo has gotten away with their garbage online. "it's Nintendo, what do you expect" but now that New Horizons is one of their best selling games of all time only behind Smash Bros. Brawl iirc, I think that their pass has expired. It's 2020 and even Metroid Prime Hunters on the original DS had better online features

exactly! it stresses me out, i have to check my pockets about a million times before i go anywhere bc if i forgot to bring enough bells for a sale wed have to do the whole thing over again :/ not to mention people doing expensive trades.

Yeah I bought Raymond for 700 NMT and it was crazy to do 2 trips for dropping items as crazy as it is spending 700 for a villager.

The singleplayer aspect of this game is pretty enjoyable, but the multiplayer is miserably mediocre. My best friend and I would play New Leaf for like an hour whenever we'd play together, visiting each other's shops and going to Tortimer Island to do tours and catch sharks and beetles. Now in New Horizons, we...hang out for like 5 minutes in each other's town selling fruit and watering flowers or whatever. There's nothing worth doing. What makes it worse is how long it takes to even arrive when traveling. It frankly just sucks. We're just sort of hoping that they'll add Tortimer Island/permanent tours in at some point in the future. It feels like a glaring flaw to have the ability to visit other people to trade items or whatever, and the ability to have so many people visit at a time in this game, but having nothing to do together.

I think you've brought up some up pretty valid points. At first I liked the idea of having normal visitors vs. best friends, but it doesn't seem like best friends can really do all that much more than friends other than use the shovel? My only guess is that most of the restrictions are still in place due to the fact that more and more people are using multiplayer. I bring this point up because I remember seeing a lot of devastated people in New Leaf making threads of "I let this person over to my town to trade and they stole all my flowers!/chopped down my trees/ruined this-or-that". So to address the issues of dishonest visitors, they are still keeping permissions as low as possible.

That being said, I do wish that if you grant someone the 'best friends' status, it would allow them to partake in more activities on your island.

Yeah that's exactly how my friends and I feel, we used to go to the island for hours and play together and in this game there is like nothing to do multiplayer wise.

yeah it's totally understandable to not let people steal, but for people you're close with it's really lacking in game play. I just think adding permissions would be something worth adding.

I would love it if you could set what visitors can do on your island individually once you set them as best friends. So maybe one person can only place furniture, whereas someone else can place furniture and dig up your flowers, for example.

The locker/ABD access is sorely missed. Also, I will pay Nintendo real cash money to get rid of that abomination of a loading screen. Talk about not respecting people's time.

The only thing that truly bothers me is Nintendo's decision to make you pay for Nintendo Online to play with friends despite the connections being P2P.

yeah that's something i totally agree with , especially with past games and Nintendo consoles it was never pay to play online when visiting. Like in New Leaf, ( i never played the older games) but connecting wifi to wifi is something that you shouldn't really have to pay for since it's not one server for people to connect to. :^0
