For so long, the Nook Islands got on my nerves. I knew it was a better option for villager selecting than just letting complete randoms move in, but it still seemed lacklustre. Also, while figuring out the whole campsite situation I was getting no villagers whatsoever! I was frustrated that there were no villager options, and I was only getting my native fruit and common flowers.

I finally asked the villager in my campsite (whom I did not want) to move in, as you had to.

THEN this happened!

I really wanted Marina this game as I had Zucker in NL and I wanted to switch it up, and I was currently going through the draining process of attempting to breed hybrids. Now, I got basically a dreamie and an inventory full of the hybrid colours I wanted!

Don't lose hope on the islands people, good things come to those who wait.

I got hybrid windflowers on like my 4th visit lol, I was lucky.
I also got 3 villagers I really like really quickly!

It does feel like a waste to spend 2,000 miles for an island with black bass / your fruit / your flowers on it though. I feel like saving them for the more expensive things later, but then I want to get more flowers on my island (I still don't have lilies or chrysanthemums yet!)

Wow your 4th visit you are so lucky! I also am trying to figure out if I should continue to use my miles on the islands or save them for something later in the game.

I actually prefer the Nook Islands to the island in New Leaf. Them being random and actually costing a pretty penny (2k Nook Miles isn't a lot but is actually somewhat worthwhile compared to 1k bells) is much more exciting. Also, the ability to meet villagers is enticing.

I like that only some islands are op with bell-making ability. In New Horizons, I spend more time wandering around my island while in New Leaf, I'd just wait for night, go to the island, and catch rare beetles.

Its not that I completely disagrre, but with a current loan standing open of 750k, I wouldn't mind a trip to Tortimer Island. The expansion prices are insane. I'm telling myself not to hurry, but I know I will get antsy again.

Yeah the expansion loans are crazy. I know the first two expansions I did I was offered a roof colour change, but the third time I was not. Did you get more offers to change the colour?

I saw people saying that you can turn any island into a tarantula island. That's exciting to me. That means even if there's nothing interesting/new, then at least maybe I can try to get bells.

Question, did you get villagers back on the islands immediately right after inviting the camper or did you have to wait first for the camper to move in and ask Nook to sell a plot of lot before they started appearing again on island visits?

I already had a plot up before going to the island, I recommend you do the same because I have found most times if I go to the island without plots I won't get anyone.

I have yet to arrive at an island I'd consider special. I sometimes find an island with a fossil, non-native fruit, or bamboo, but nothing mind blowing.

Thank you! Will do it the same way you did. Hoping I also get some villagers I like. :)

It's a good concept, but the 2000 NookMiles + the high probability of a common island showing up is too high. I think either one has to change, either reduce it to 1000 NookMiles or make different islands appear more frequently. The "low value" islands wouldn't be so terrible if they weren't all the same thing. Like just imaging an island completely covered by weed or your native fruit. It would be a good grind that'd also help you with your NookMiles goals.
