Glad to know that it's not completely just me and bad luck, even if it is a really small number of us getting these.
Duo conversations are gone?

I'm just a ghost.
I find it funny how villagers have more to say when they talk to each other, but when they talk to you its always the same topics and questions you heard over and over again. To the point for me I still see them talking to each other on my both my islands so I see it pretty often.
I caught a few duo conversations again, since I made this topic, and all times it was the one wanting to adopt the others catchphrase. There were a few times I missed getting to them in time when I heard it in the background or saw them chatting, but was too late. The same villagers got together almost seconds after to chat for the catchphrase swapping. Like they needed me to initiate the conversation to make it complete and so they just kept chatting (and me missing) until I initiated their trade.
This just seems too coincidental to just be bad rng. I don't know, maybe I am just that unlucky, but all the time? There's got to be one time when I see a real conversation that isn't 'Oh I like that saying of yours! Mind if I take it?' It really makes the villagers even more boring because I've just come to expect them to just want to steal catchphrases.
Edit: I literally pushed two villagers into each other (3 in total) after making this post to test this out. I save both clips. Both convos. were about taking the catch phrase. lol I should find a way to upload it to here.

I stopped checking the duo conversations when all my villagers started saying "oink"... thankfully, it's fixed now, but now I'm afraid to bother checking 
I get so many duo conversations sometimes I don't bother seeing what they're about.
Just a few minutes ago, Patty and Victoria stormed off from each other. It turns out Patty thinks being a pop star is a natural born talent, while Victoria thinks she has to work really hard if she wants to be a pop star.

My villagers are still talking to each other. And not just about exchanging catchphrases. I had Papi and Alfonso having a very important convo about their obsession with food the other day.

Monique and Dobie have been flirting all day on my island (4x conversations), so they're definitely still in.
Would be nice if rng wasn't so crap then. I literally haven't had any conversation that wasn't catchphrase swapping in about a year or so. And I run into them talking to each other occasionally. At first I was always excited whenever I would see them talking, but now I don't get my hopes up because it's always catchphrases.
