Ever feel judged for who you have?

I've had the same all-bear-cub island for a year. I love them all too much to ever let any of them go! I've seen other people with bear cub islands and every comment I've gotten about it has been positive. So no, I've never felt any judgement.

BTW, Pudge is my absolute favorite!! (Don't tell the other cubs.)

I mean, I might get flak for having Raymond even though he isn't my favorite, ( haven't had any yet, but believe me...) However, most people seem to like that my island isn't just Raymond, Judy, Audie, Chrissy, villagers along that line, personally I put villagers I like, so while I have some popular ones I also have so pretty underrated/ forgotten villagers

I know there are some people who might think my line-up is basic. A lot of people hate Marshal (who is on my island) for example, which I get, he's pretty over-hyped. But who cares, I probably wouldn't love their line-up personally, I don't expect them to love mine. It's all down to personal taste.

I have Raymond. I didn't hunt for him he just showed up in my campsite. I did want him but not because other people did. I just thought he was cute. The only other new villager I have had an interest in is Dom cause he's cute too. But I'm not actively looking for him. Between my campsite and mystery islands I've seen Judy, Megan, Audie and Sherb and passed on all of them. Like most people I pick who I like not who others like. in addition to raymond I have Molly, Soleil, Walt, Etoile, Cherry, Stitches, Roald, Filbert and Merry. I'm sure there are some of them other people dont like but it doesnt matter to me. And there are others I still want like Shep. Like who you like. Forget everyone else and their opinions.

I think it’s more likely to be judged if you have someone like Raymond. Nobody is going to think twice if I have Mac on my island, although I find him perfect. My most popular villager currently on my island is Goldie, but I have her because she fits my color scheme and I think she’s a sweetheart.

I can see someone wondering inside why someone has Raymond in their town. Like, is it a girl that think he’s attractive and loves him? Or do they just want him because he’s popular and they want to seem cool? I don’t think we should have villagers based on what tier they fall under. All of my villagers were chosen based on their species and color scheme. (My villagers are shown in my signature.)

I have Raymond because he was my first ever campsite villager and I'm attached to him. Not gonna lie, I was hoping I'd run into him on my island one way or another, but I wasn't going to buy him or do obsessive island hopping.

When he was announced I was intrigued by him because of his heterochromia (I love heterochromia and my dog has it), his glasses, his grumpy face, his glasses, and the fact that he's a cat... oh and I love smugs in general.

But yeah, I have him and like him and those are my reasons. I don't care about the his status or popularity or anything like that. I also don't feel judged for having him, but I pretty much just play alone anyway.

I have like 7 tier 1 villagers so I get that a lot of people might judge me for that but I also have villagers like Rasher that others may find ugly or off-putting but I find so adorable. I don't think people choose villagers because they're popular. They choose the villagers they like and those are the ones that become popular. Even if someone has an island with only the most popular villagers, I don't assume they did that for status or to be on-trend, although I do know some streamers and YTers who choose based on popularity... Back in the day, I didn't get the Marshal hype and I thought I would never have him in my town because ~i'm not like other girls~ but I kept seeing him in dreamtowns and his little sulky face totally won me over. I did eventually replace him with Mira but I was happy having him even if it was a short while. He's now in my New Horizons island.

However, I do admit, it can be kind of boring seeing the same pool of 30 villagers over and over. It's less common nowadays than during NL but I remember people would do a lot of themed villagers that corresponded to the them of their island like if they had a Japanese-inspired town they would choose Snake, Kabuku, etc or a town full of anteaters and I loved that. I feel like in general, I see more of the same types of islands over and over, I suppose because the furniture is less varied in this game.

So yes, I feel judged sometimes but also judgmental. At the end of the day, I don't take others' opinions into my decision-making and I hope they don't feel compelled to choose differently based on what I think.

personally i've never felt judged for my villagers, and i'd never judge anybody for the villagers they choose to have on their island, but i do agree that i'd probably be more likely to feel judged if i had a lot of the more 'popular' villagers because it could appear as if i just have the villagers because of their popularity, and not because i genuinely enjoy their characters and want them there.

It always bothers me when people feel self-conscious or stressed out over Animal Crossing. It’s ANIMAL CROSSING! It’s the most relaxing game ever! I hate that so many people care so much about what other people think that it influences their experience with the game.

People are always going to judge you, but you don’t have to care! Especially when it’s something as inconsequential and silly as which cartoon characters inhabit your pretend video game village. When I see an island full of the same exact same tier 1 popular villagers, I absolutely think it’s “basic” and boring. But my opinion doesn’t matter! You don’t have to care what I think! You do you and have the villages you enjoy. You can accept that people are going to like or dislike or otherwise judge your choices without letting it bother you.

Every once in a while I feel a little ashamed to say that I am chasing after the 8 new villagers. Then I get over it. It is hard work to get all of them. And they all have cool designs!

I do like it when I see people who have less loved villagers. But I wouldn't make fun of anyone who only have popular villagers.

No, but I do find it odd how much some players stress out if they can't find a specific villager when on a villager hunt. I can understand looking for a "big sister" or a "peppy" villager if that's what you want for your island or are after specific DIY's etc. Yet when I'm looking up design inspiration on social media all I currently see is everyone fawning over having Marshal on their island, but why? Yes he looks cute for a squirrel but unless he's crapping multiple gold nuggets on a daily basis then what's so special about him compared to all the other villagers in Animal Crossing. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yep. I completely agree with you, all the villagers should just be equal

I'm doing the same thing on my second island!
Its partly because I love some of them and want to be able to move them to my main island should I want.

Also because I had a few of them anyways, and when I decided to move sherb off island 1 to island 2 (for the above mentioned reason) I realised I only needed a couple more.

I literally just got reneigh show up at my campsite! So now I'm just missing Judy.

Nope, the game's purpose is to shape an island to your will and live your happy island life chasing bugs, fishing, seadiving, decorating and collecting stuff. It should not matter which character you like or dislike, so don't feel bad if one of your favourite villagers seems unpopular. It's your choice, so choose to be happy and ignore naggers. <3

I'm going to guess that people have most likely judged me for my villager choices. But do I care? Not even a little bit. Everyone likes different villagers, and has different taste. If we all liked the same thing, that would be so boring.

My all-time favourite villager is Alfonso- and I have being told that he's not cute at all or that I shouldn't like him because he's "ugly". But who are you to tell me who my favourite villager should be? No. You can have an opinion about someone's villager line up, but that doesn't mean you have to voice it if it's a negative opinion and make the other person feel bad.

This is a game with virtual animals and cute furniture. Who cares.

I have Pietro on my island cause he looks so pretty with those colours plus he is a cute little sheep. But I have had players (no one from here of course you are all lovely) say eww you have the clown freak :(

That's awesome! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one hunting for all of them! ♡ I just got Reneigh today, so my last one to get is Raymond.

For me on my 2nd Island I am trying to get Villager Photos that look cool. Any Jock or Lazy villagers won't count and they must not have a weird or ugly design to them. Thats the rule I make for myself. It is challenging, but I am liking it so far.

Having someone rate your villagers is somewhat flawed to me. You're definitely asking someone to judge your lineup based on a topic called "subjectivity." We all agree that each villager is special to someone.

In my opinion, let's change the approach and rephrase it to this example instead: "Say something nice to my villagers."

Or we can talk about our different experiences with the same villager. I would see it as an interesting topic rather than rating your lineup.
