Experiences in Flattening?

I have a second island that I don't go on much, as I picked a kind of very specific theme (I attempted to re-create the Club Penguin map haha,) that was a bit tedious to work on. I'd like to return to the idea later, perhaps when I get more of the items needed for it, but for now, I'm planning on flattening the island! It shouldn't be too involved as much of the island is just covered in trees and not many items. I'm excited to have an absolutely blank canvas -- there are so many possibilities -- and to play the game more. I was wondering, what were your experiences while flattening (or attempting to flatten,) your island?

Omg yes recreating the club penguin map would of been amazing you could of used penguin islanders too haha

I haven't flatten my island but my irl friend decided to flatten her whole island as she didn't want to restart and loose all her progress. So she cleaned up all the items she had then flattened her island and said she found it so much easier to restart the design progress.

She also said it was kind of relaxing sitting there flattening it all

I think I’m just not very creative lol I flattened my old town and then like immediately got overwhelmed because I didn’t know what to do. I think it’s a great idea if you already have a plan in mind. I love being able to edit the map but ideas come to me much quicker if I have a island base to start with.

methinkst i either debated flattening, started it or completely flattened my island and then didn't know what to do when i had the island map editor up. or like maybe i just had the island map editor up and changed my mind before i did anything. i don't remember.

though i defo agree with Soot in that its probably better to have some thoughts and feelings about some of the basics and stuff! instead of maybe getting burnt out with everything that you could do and all after thou commits to the task

I started ACNH for the first time in February and after months of will I won't I, I decided to finally flatten most of my island. I got fed up having to climb ladders or pole vault over islands as I didn't have enough IGB back then to keep installing bridges. Plus, it was nice to start with a kind of blank canvas and my island looks a lot bigger. Before I flattened it, my villagers would only walk around their houses and Resident Services, but now they walk around the whole island and the beach. Still deciding on whether I should flatten my 2nd island.

It’s very time consuming. I remember I initially had the south part of my island at a higher ground, and then decided I wanted to make it towards the Northside all the way in the back. That meant I had to flatten the south side of my island. It took me days removing all the trees, moving houses, getting rid of flowers, etc. I do love the placement much more now and don’t regret doing it, but it was a lot of work.

Haha yess I do mostly have penguin villagers! It ended up being a bit trickier than I thought to make all the buildings and recreate the layout but it was a lot of fun. Especially the ski slopes! I'll probably keep the penguin villagers .

That really makes sense it does seem a bit overwhelming... I currently don't have one so we'll see how it goes . I might end up trying to make a new leaf-esque island! How did your island turn out?

Ah that's awesome, it sounds like you had a wonderful experience with it! I really like the idea of having a blank canvas too. Although I love it, my other island is super crowded so it'll be nice to have the exact opposite on the second island! Is your second island super developed?

Those pictures look amazing I would defiantly visit and try to dress like a penguin haha
