Finally caught my last bug, but...

It wasn't my final donated bug.

The Horned Hercules, who had eluded me for a year, finally spawned for me. And I caught it! I got the fanfare and everything. Took it to Blathers to celebrate and- no fanfare from him. No celebration, no thank you. What did I do wrong? That was my final bug!

The Red Dragonfly.
In all my double, triple checking of my encyclopedia, I missed one bug. One bug that was caught but not donated. The Red. Dragonfly. A reasonably common, relatively easy to catch bug that spawns through September and October.
Here I stewed for so long on my enemy the Horned Hercules when the Red Dragonfly had truly been what eluded me. The shame I feel, the utter shame. I was so excited, I did a little happy dance, only to be eluded by one of my favorite bugs IRL.

The moral of the story? Always be POSITIVE you've donated before you sell.

I'm far from completing the critterpedia but yeah, a good moral you have there. I'd always go straight to the museum after catching something for the first time before I end up forgetting it.

A big congratulations, though! The red dragonfly shouldn't be hard to catch once fall comes around.

At least you only have to wait for a month and not another year! Congratulations on getting the Horned Hercules though. I have only seen it once and i swung my net too soon, off it flew never to be seen since.

No can do, chief. I ain't no time traveler. Nothing against time travelers, its just that going completionist and time traveling ruins the whole point of the game for me, even in the smallest amounts.

ive done that in the past, not given the museum my critters and instead sold them. it got me into a load of trouble figuring out which ones that i still needed so now i catch the critters and go to the museum immediately to donate any or all of them.

I did the same thing! I was SO pumped to finish my collection... only to realize I had forgotten to donate my Horned Hercules IIRC, I had to TT back to summer to catch a new one to donate

Good thing the critterpedia tells you if you've donated a specimen, otherwise you'd have to double check the entire exhibit and figure it out through process of elimination. I think I'd pull my hair out otherwise
