hi! ive mostly just lurked around here because i'm not very talkative :<

marshal has just pinged me to move out, and i want to sell or auction him! but ive never done so before and im nervous about the etiquette surrounding it and i dont want to get anything wrong :(

1. i think i have a voided villager, fuchsia or sydney i think, will this cause problems for anyone wanting to buy?
2. is the usual method for the buyer to visit your town, pay and speak to the villager in boxes? is there anything else i might need to do or know?
3. are people going to trust me if i have no prior rating or anything?
4. is it 'better' to sell them in any particular way? im only interested in ingame stuff because i dont use the forum much, but i dunno if i should auction or just sell
5. he's not original, is there a 'correct' way to let people know about the state? i think he has a different shirt and maybe 1 or 2 new things in his house, most or all of the sloppy furniture is still there

thank you for any help or advice!

I think you'll be fine as long as you follow the rules. You can find some rules regarding auctioning villagers in this thread. For an auction you basically want to add some information like originality, moving out date (are you willing to TT?), starting bid, minimum increment, buy-out price (if any), current highest bid/offer (to make things easier) and the end date of the auction.

1. Voided villagers might be a problem for some. I know that some people are not fond (to say the least) about getting voided villagers from others in their town. Try to clear your void if you can, and if not, warn the potential buyers just in case. The move-in of an invited villager could be cancelled by an unwanted (voided) villager too. Even though some sources deny this, I speak of personal experience: yes, it can happen, though it has only happened to me once. This situation is absolutely not favorable if you try to sell off a villager, because in terms of business... the customer would not get what they paid for.

2. The transaction is exactly as how you described it. The buyer comes over, drops money, then invites the villager to their town. Most people are a bit hesitant when they enter your town, not everyone immediately runs to the villager's house. Instead they expect you to guide them to the villager's house. It's etiquette not to wander off in someone else's town and not to run (except on paths).

After the transaction, you might want to leave feedback to the other user on this forum depending how your experience was. A positive rating is very much appreciated and the other person might return the favor!

3. Some may be a bit uncomfortable with you having no WiFi ratings yet, but everyone had to start at 0. They might be extra cautious, but it's not a big deal as long as you're not trying to scam anybody :p The ratings will come in the more you connect and trade with others.

4. If you're only interested in in-game things (such as Bells and items), it would be best to post your thread in the "Villager Trading Plaza". Make sure to use the [Selling] and [Auction] tags. You can do both of them in this section of the forum. Whether you actually want to sell or auction is up to you. The pros of holding an auction is that the winning bid might turn up higher than you've expected, but... it could also be less than you've expected! Selling is fastest (in my opinion), because you don't have to wait 'till the auction is over and you can decide the price. To get an idea what a villager is worth, you can check out this thread.

5. The way you explained Marshal's state of originality in the OP seems good enough to me already. You don't wanna make things overly complicated, but do make sure to let people know what they are buying.

I tried my best to be as helpful as I can ^_^ All my answers are based on the experience I've gained thanks to my cycling thread. Another thing you might want to try is to look at how other people set up their auctioning/selling thread. It'll give you an idea how to set up your own. Example auction thread & example selling thread. Please note that adding pictures/screenshots is completely optional.

If something is still unclear, feel free to message me!
