Hi museum, I know I'm being super annoying right now but please bear with me!

I finally know how I'll be managing my Paypal stuff!
So my sister has a paypal account. The payment for my commissions will go there and from her account she will transfer the money on my bank account. This should work, right?

Question:
How does this work anyway? I mean, how do people pay their money so that it appears on her paypal account? Which things do I need to pay attention to? etc etc

I'm so sorry I really don't know or understand a thing. I'm such a kid. Can someone please help me ;-;

Gonna lurk this because I'm gonna set up a Paypal soon and I have no idea how it works. xD

A commissioner will need to have a Paypal of their own set up, and they must know your sister's email in order to send a payment to her account. Then you will receive the money, and then from there, there's menu options on the front page to walk you through transferring it to your bank, which will take 3-5 days usually.

Ahh so, I just need to provide my commissioners her e-mail address? That's it? o-o

And I heard there's a special Paypal fee, how is this calculated etc?

Yeah, the e-mail address that she signed up with paypal.
The paypal fee is 2.9% of the payment + 30 cents.

I see! Thank you!

From what I've read on ardrey's shop, there are special things the customer should pay attention to when paying.
I copy and paste: "If you are paying via Goods and Services, remember to select "No address needed"!
If you are paying via Friends and Family, DO NOT include phrases like "commission", "payment", "deviantART", etc."

Why is that?

I can't remember exactly but I heard that Paypal doesn't like it when you select the "Friends and Family" option when you're paying for a service, because there is like a 30 cent charge when using their program to pay for a service, and by selecting the Friends and Family, you do not get charged that service fee under the pretenses that you are lending money to a family or friend member as a gift, and not a business for a commission. I think it's a part of their terms and policies that you must be honest about your selection, especially now, because legal action might be taken. I would look up their terms and conditions to make sure of all of this.

The "no address needed" option is because usually, art commissions are not delivered through mail, they are posted on sites or emailed to the recipient.

I see! Then I'll better tell my commissioner not to pay via Family & Friends. Don't wanna go to prison ahah ._."
Okay.. I guess that was it, thank you guys!!! c:

I know you branded this thread as answered already, but there are a few more things I think you and anyone reading this thread should know about using Paypal for commissions.

First of all, your commissioners do not need to have a Paypal account of their own to pay. Anyone with a credit card can send money via Paypal, but an additional fee will be charged. So, while it is cheaper to pay from another Paypal account, it isn't necessary to pay.

The transaction fee mentioned above only applies to citizens of the USA (and I think maybe Canada and Mexico because of NAFTA? Not entirely sure about this last part). For anyone outside this country, the fees are actually 5.4% + US$0.30. You can check which fees apply to you here.

Paypal will also charge you an extra fee for conversion if the Paypal you're receiving money from uses a different currency than the one being traded, so be careful with that.

Lastly, I actually recommend creating invoices to request payments rather than having your commissioners send you money directly. Why? You eliminate all chances of someone accidentally picking "friends and family" for a commission, invoices help you keep track of who has paid and who hasn't and how many commissions you've done, and honestly it would make you look more professional, which is an important thing in this business. The only thing you need to be careful about with invoices is to be sure to set "No Due Date" in your Payment Terms, which means your commissioners won't get in trouble for not paying on the date you created that invoice. With the upcoming User Agreement update, though, requesting money via invoices may become obsolete as I've been told that you can't create them from personal accounts. I can't really verify this yet, as my account is premium right now.

For a more thorough guide on how the process goes, you could read this page from the official Paypal site.

ahh so helpful you guys!! THANK YOU SO MUCH.

And what a pity. There's a conversion fee as well? *sigh
Why do I have to live in Europe ._."
