Freebie, YCH blinking chibi! <3 [DONE]

Hi guys, I made an attempt at animation for the first time! I'm still pretty new to it but I'm happy with how it turned out, and I tried a new art style too. ^^
If anyone has experience with animation, tips would be highly appreciated because this took forever to figure out how to do ;; (I made the art + animation with procreate, but the quality was low so I had to edit it in photoshop afterwards) I also can't seem to figure out how to make her blink faster. The blink is kinda slow for my taste...

I made a base for this icon, so if anyone would like a freebie, drop your OC/Islander references and I'll choose someone in a couple days! <3
also would appreciate opinions of how much RLC $$$ I could reasonably charge for something like this! My only source of income rn is from the government so I would love to start doing commissions of these to help with bills and such ;v; it took me around 4-5 hours to finish so I was thinking at least $20-$25 but I don't wanna overcharge hhhh

Hi! I really like your style! Here is my rep if you would like to try her!

The only thing I’d like to mention is that Delilah has light brown hair (as it’s not available in NH) and gray eyes (any shade is fine)
I really like your animation (definitely better than whatever I can achieve lol) and it would be really cool in my opinion if you could experiment with slight head tilts, winks, smiles, etc. Even adding hearts or stars or small symbols that are animated is cool too! Whichever is more comfortable for you
As for pricing, I think it could definitely go up for the $20-25 range, you could charge more for the extra animations. It’s up to you! Good luck, and I hope I helped!

if you want to speed up or slow down the animation, you can use the timeline panel in photoshop:

The less frames you have, the easier it is to time something like a blink.

these are super cute, and if it takes 4-5 hours then 20-25 sounds fair! animation takes a lot of work and time, and you should be paid a fair price for it :>

I did a small lil experiment with yours (hope you don't mind haha)

for this one I basically removed all except for 4 frames - open eyes, one transition frame, and the closed eyes frame. Delay for open eyes is only 1s, and for closed is only 0.5, you can set these longer depending what you want the effect to look like.

for this one I kept all the frames but set the delays to 0. It's slower because there's more frames to go through >///<

this last one I think looks smoother but needs one extra frame compared to the first.


you can save & open these in photoshop if you want to see which frames I used for each orz

Tysm and yesss I really want to experiment with other animations!!! The simple blinking was a huge learning curve so I think it will take me a bit to get the hang of more complicated animations ;v; but I’m definitely going to try! I love the idea of adding animated hearts/stars too!

no problem! You can open the gif in photoshop to see which frames I ended up using, it's a little hard to describe, haha <3

Fingers crossed the quality is still good... instead of editing it in photoshop I exported to giphy straight from procreate. Also followed Mikaiah’s tip on removing a frame and I think the blink looks better!
