So, I have been experiencing some stuttering/drop in frame rate in the game lately. At first, it mainly happened in only one area, which is probably the most crowded area I have on the island (pictured below).

However, I've noticed frame drops in other sections of the island that are nowhere near as crowded than this one. I suspect it may be due to a big number of flowers and trees (lots of moving parts), but it also got worse with the lights on cedar trees.

Are you guys experiencing something similar?

I've visited a others islands where this happens in the most odd places; not in the item crowded areas but in relatively empty bits.

Think someone posted another thread like this and all I can think of it must being un-loading (ah yes very technical word) all those items when you move out of the rendering zone perhaps.
-no proof of this tho, just a theory

I wouldn't be too concerned with it! No matter what, my Stonehenge pops in after a slight framerate drop. It's in an empty area with a few bamboo around it. Nothing like what you have, and certainly nothing like what some people have on their islands! I do wonder if winter has something to do with extra lag - there are a lot of extra things to keep track of like snow, snowballs, and snowflakes.

I've been experiencing a lot of lag in docked mode more than handheld lately, interestingly. Haven't narrowed it down yet.

Yeah, I only play it on the dock, so it's something to consider. I had to play in handheld mode for a few minutes the other day, and one thing that I've noticed is that for some reason, the Switch's fan seems to run "calmer" in handheld mode than it does when it's docked, although I could see a difference in resolution or anything like that (as it's visible in BotW, for example).

I get a little since winter started.
See, the thing is I'm in the southern hemisphere, so the only thing that is different is the Christmas lights on cedar trees, but I had noticed this stuttering like a week before the decorations were put on the trees.

The game lags a lot when I go to an island that has SO MANY things placed all over and then the game suffers in frame drops and its like everything pops up all over as if they didn't exist before.

Do you think it maybe due to haveing the data loaded from the sd card and not from the game card?

Yeah, basically the more items you put in an area (including lit items like the cedar trees, idk about moving plants but I heard the same goes for them), the more the frame drops. Things sometimes load and unload on screen and I think it's to prevent further lag from having everything load at once. It used to bother me but not anymore, as I like having a lot of things on my island LOL (see below). The areas near your crowded area can get a bit laggy as well, maybe to decide whether to load the adjacent areas?

Also yeah, docked mode is considerably more laggy than handheld. I used to play on docked mode during the early stages of the game but switched to handheld since I noticed it was way faster in controls. I noticed it in particular when I was selecting items in my inventory, the cursor moved way faster in handheld. I haven't played ACNH on docked since.

Mine is stored in the Switch's internal memory (I still need to get a decent sd card for it). If anything it should have less loading problems (which admittedly, it doesn't have, considering the standard loading times on the switch).

The more items you place around your island, the slower and more stuttery it becomes, it's a shame.
