SPOILERS FOR SEASON SIX OF GAME OF THRONES. I WON'T BE SPOILING THE BOOKS, BUT I WILL BE MENTIONING SOMETHING MINOR THAT HAPPENS IN A DANCE WITH DRAGONS.
Today, I was watching Alt Shift X on YouTube, and I came across his video about how Daenerys is NOT fireproof. He made this video before S6E4, but it's still actually true. Towards the end of A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, Dany is recovering from a burn. George R. R. Martin himself has said multiple times that NO Targaryens are immune to fire, and the events of the birth of Dany's dragons was a one-time, magical thing. So it kind of annoyed me when I watched S6E4 and saw Dany burn the khals and walk out of there un-burnt, because the show is basically saying that she is fireproof. I was scrolling through the comments and I came across one comment that said that Dany could have learned blood magic and she used the deaths of the khals to protect herself, and it made me think: what if she unknowingly used blood magic to protect herself from fire twice.
The reason I think she doesn't know she's doing it is because we have received no hints or indications in the books or the show of her learning blood magic. But when that commenter said that she could have used the deaths of the khals to protect herself, it reminded me of the birth of her dragons in season 1. Mirri Maz Duur is burned to death before Dany steps in to the flames. Only death can pay for life. Maybe Dany unknowingly performed blood magic that night. The author has described it as a "magical" event after all. Maybe Mirri Maz Duur's death saved Dany's life. That would make the event with the khals make much more sense.
I also really like the idea that Dany doesn't know she's performing blood magic and thinks she's completely immune to fire. I reckon a really good way for Dany to die would be for Cersei to burn her at the stake (since Cersei is becoming eerily like the Mad King), and Dany would be thinking "I'll survive this, fire cannot kill a dragon." And then Dany burns to death, leading Tyrion and Varys to connect the dots and realise that people died every time Dany survived a fire un-burnt.
I don't know if this will turn out to be the case or not, but I'm just going to hope it is, because it makes me feel a lot better about S6E4.
What do you guys think? Do you have any other theories?
Here's the Alt Shift X video I was talking about. If you're a Game of Thrones fan you should check him out, he's a great YouTuber:
