Actually, that's not true.

If you have no idea what you're doing or what looks good then you have a tendency to pick up bad habits, which makes you progressively worse over time.

I often find myself thinking like that, too. You know what a professional, awesome signature looks like, but it's hard for you to figure out how to get that wicked result.
