Gold Points for Wii Games Help

Is it still possible to redeem gold points for any newly bought Nintendo Wii game? I did a temporary game swap with one of my friends and am currently burrowing Super Mario Galaxy 2. I already played through the first game entirely and now I want to complete the series. He did confirm that no one except him has ever owned this copy of the game so the points redemption code is guaranteed unused. He also confirmed that he did not ever redeem the code for himself nor does he care enough to go through the steps. I'm just hoping these points didn't go completely to waste.

Also, please no spoilers for this game. I barely saw any videos and I will be going into it mostly blind. If you would like to leave me your thoughts on this game spoiler-free however, that is perfectly fine.

Wii games would've come with Club Nintendo codes. Those codes expired on March 31, 2015 after Nintendo announced Club Nintendo would be discontinued and replaced with My Nintendo. So no, it's not redeemable.
