I have watched a video about getting a golden statue when you use the telephone in the office. But I can't figure out how to do that in my own game. Do you need a special amiibo card to do this?

(forgive me if I'm dense) does that mean you can't get it unless you also play SSB?

I'm pretty sure it means that you can't get it unless you have the amiibo. You don't have to play Smash to get the amiibo since you can purchase it separately.

OK, I think I get in now... you actually have to buy one of those statue thingies. (getting a big education here today lol) I just checked on Amazon and I see they run from $15 to $30. That's crazy just to get something (that doesn't actually exist) to show up in a game.

The villager amiibo is one of those rare amiibos, so the price is gonna be insanely high, your best bet is waiting for restock in stores where the price isn't as insane.
