That's true, but SSBB handles lag in a kind of cool way... instead of actual on-screen lag, the button presses lag.

So, like... you press a button, and if the lag is severe, it'll execute the action only one second after you pressed it.

and Brawl has an interesting way of handling it. Rather than putting one laggy player at a disadvantage, the game seems to slow down the proceedings for everyone until it gets control data from all the players.
