Underneath The Stars
거기 너 i fancy you
This trick is for people with 4 characters. It can also be done as a method to check the possible locations where a new villager might plot, after you put paths around town.
Note: It's not entirely the same as plot resetting & it's not as 100% accurate as there is no character creation and saving involved, but I have tried this twice now & worked both times.
Before I start with the method, here are some questions some might probably ask:
What's the difference between this & the popular plot reset trick?
It doesn't involve creating or deleting a new character. The main key is looking for the plot location as the game title plays and it shows the town on the background.
The title screen only shows a certain part of town, do I just wait? Do I need to keep closing & opening the game?
Yes, the title screen only shows one part of the town that's why it's preferred to load the game on 6 am where there is possibly only one villager awake (the normal's). If you have town ordinance relating to time, change it. You might think that is time consuming but give it a chance. The plot reset trick as well involves several resets AND character creation. If anything, this should be as faster as you just hit home button, exit, reload, look at title screen. No need to type or do anything else.
But the loading page does not save anything? When I load the game the villager could move onto a new spot.
That's true but in this method, you have to be willing to scatter paths all over town. The trick itself warns you for spots you might have missed. If you have load the game more than 3-5 times, and the plot is still on the same location, you should be safe.
How long does this trick take?
I didn't take an hour to do this. It's probably as time consuming as the regular plot reset, but if you follow the instructions below, it will be easier.
So I should time travel?
This trick involves time travelling, but not more than 2 days.
Can I do this trick for when I'm not sure a villager is moving in and just want to check?
I wouldn't recommend it as that would be a waste of time. This is a trick if you have adopted a villager from another town, or the campsite.
I have 1-3 characters can I do this?
Surely you can. If you can compute how long it took you to do the plot reset trick versus this one, it would be neat as well. Both take patience but the plus side of doing this is no more repetitive character creation and no patch of dirt on the ground.
You can also do this as well before doing the actual plot reset trick, but that would put a patch of dirt on your ground, but the results would be more accurate.
I might miss some possible questions, but go ahead and ask them. Meanwhile, here are the steps below:
Step 1
Placing paths all over town, covering 3x3 areas. Skip this if you're well aware of this.
Like what you'd normal do for plot resetting, you have to cover your town with paths. It's not generally required to place on every single block, it is advised to put at least 1 in the middle of a 3x3 block. If your town is about 60-70% finished, and there are a neat number of PWP, this task should be easier as the 1 tile buffer around the pwp would prevent villagers from moving in that area.
Just a little trick, we usually forget the hybrid/orchard area. Make sure there's a path in the middle of 3x3 areas too. What I personally do, is put paths behind the trees so it doesn't look as unsightly.
Step 2
Deciding where the villager plots.
This part could be different from the normal plot reset & got more restriction as to do this there should only be ONE spot for them to move in. If you want your town to have a designated neighborhood area, and you allow them to move in either of those areas provided that is okay as well.
Leave 3x3 tiles open, with paths around it like this one below
If by doing Step 4 later on repeatedly, and a plot just refuse to appear on the open area you wanted-- Most probably, a PWP, a rock or anything must be blocking the space.
Step 3
Time travelling to minutes before 6am next day
This is a very important step much like the step in plot resetting where you don't load your main character but make a new one. Instead, you freeze time to the same day, when the villager has NOT moved/plotted to your town yet.
You can do this 2 ways:
1) Time traveling to the day the new villager is set to move but setting the time 5:57am, so it still counts as the day before. PLEASE be careful doing this one. One mistake or staying in town for too long will force save your game to the next day and there will be nothing you can do. You'll be stuck where the villager decides to move. So before the clock even reaches 5:58am, save & quit really really quick. Close the game naturally, and wait for a minute. Opening up the game, the game assumes the time is 6:00am, it shows the town as the background to the title screen acting like it's a new day but it doesn't load or save your file yet. There is always chance for you to time travel again.
But what if you don't have time to do it the same day? You're still safe. I actually did Step 3 on the next day. Let's say you didn't time travel yesterday and the villager is supposed to move today (real time). You choose your Mayor as you do, but DO NOT load the town. You go through Isabelle's instructions, and set the time to same day but 5:57am. Again, save & quit before the time even reach 5:58am.
2) Setting the time via 3DS settings, setting it to 6am. Personally, I prefer the first one, but you can do this too.
Basically you close the game before 6am and start the game on 6 am for the next step. Note start the game NOT load the mayor/town. Don't do that, yet.
Step 4
Waiting for the plot to show on title screen
This is the tedious part and you will do it over & over again.
Another reason why you want the time to be 6am is because only the normal's are awake this time. If you have early bird or night owl ordinance this will be more difficult to do, but it's possible.
If you didn't know, when your villagers are sleeping, the title page shows the houses around your town instead of the villager walking around. The "camera" pans from one house to another. Even the town plaza, town hall & Re-Tail. It will eventually show up. This is your way of looking around town looking for possible areas where the villager might plot.
Close & open your game several times, and the plot should be at the same location EACH time. If successful, it means it's the only open 3x3 where they can move.
Otherwise, if you see them plotting in an unwanted area. Like this below, the villager plotted on my orchard/hybrid area. I missed ONE spot of 3x3 even if I thought I had it all covered. This is what makes the trick useful.
Had to set the time again to the previous day (reminder again: should be the same day where the villager has not moved) and place the paths on the open spot to secure they won't there.
Step 5
Loading the game & hoping for the best
Once you did Step 4 and seen a plot on the same place you want at least 3 times (5 even if you have time!) you should be safe.
Load your mayor/town to the day the villager will move and hope for the best.
Just to show what happened to mine, the villager did move in to the very same spot. Both Punch & Muffy lived the spot I wanted them to live.
I hope this helped
I wish I did this for Marshal's. I was so sure I had the entire town covered for him, he was supposed to move to Muffy's spot above but it was before I did this trick so instead I loaded the game, not having a choice to plot reset with 4 characters and he moved a different spot.

I don?t know if this was already discovered or there was a thread about it, but couldn?t find here.
This trick is a working progress & I know a lot don?t even have 4 characters but there are those who might have so hear me out...
Punchy is moving in (finally!!!) but before I even load my town I saw that he?s moving near the lighthouse & there is NO WAY I am allowing him to!!! My boy is moving near the spot behind my house.
So what I did to get a preview of where he?s moving is watching the intro title screen and wait for the plot to appear. I've thought about this before because of the title page showing our villagers but I didn?t know if it was possible. However, this photo below confirms it.
Edit: Apparently, when you load your town the villager could decide to move in elsewhere. But if you try doing this 2-3 times and the plot is in the place you want, most probably they?ll move in there.
Note: It took me about 10 minutes for this part of the town to show up, but it was worth it.
I really thought there was no way he?d move into this area because I can?t even build a pwp there as it?s near to the plaza! Notice the pwp?s lined up, it?s only where Isabelle allowed me.
So basically, I will time travel to the previous day (freezing the time) and this gives me a chance to either build a pwp on the unwanted location or put more paths. I will update what happened on this & wish me luck.
