So Im debating on whether to purchase Happy Home Designer so I would like all of your
honest opinions on the game. And also what are the amiibo cards for?

If you like the interior decorating aspect of AC:NL then go for it. This game heavily emphasizes on that and added even more furniture. The amiibo cards are collector's items. The non NPC villagers cards are easily obtainable in game. I can tell you I got 4 of the amiibo characters within my initial 10 villagers and I have not purchased any amiibo cards.
