I first started playing Animal Crossing on the 3DS with New Leaf. A deep love affair began on that day, and continues to this day on the island of Happy Hugs.

Pietro

In New Leaf, my favorite villager was Pietro. I had his amiibo card ready to go for the New Horizons launch because I had no intention of waiting for the capricious RNG gods to randomly eventually grant my favorite villager. When I invited him as a camper to my island and saw his new ACNH model for the first time, I was worried. He was less floofy. Gone were the scarves, and the sheep now wore clothes much like the other animal villagers. Also, with the new and improved graphics, his model was much more garish and ostentatious. I could now understand why his character design displeased so many. Would I still love my new Pietro?

But, it turned out, there was no need to worry. He's just as silly and funny and wonderfully colorful as he was in New Leaf. He's still my digital bestie. He's a colorful disco ball of happiness and quirkiness on the island of Happy Hugs.

Angel and Maldaer's Home

This is the first floor of Angel and Maldaer's home that is located in the residential district of the island. The second floor and basement haven't been finished yet.

The Museum Annex

This building is run by Maldaer. He runs the adminstration for Blathers and the museum because although Blathers is a brilliant researcher and scientist, he's not the best at paperwork and organization. So Maldaer handles research grants, booking lecturers and speakers, internships, visiting researchers and students, etc.

And, just a small tidbit of information: Maldaer is married to Angel, the town representative and architect.

The Tiki Bar

During the winter, which is Happy Hugs' low season, the Island Development Board works hard on projects to improve the island's appeal for both its local citizens and tourists. The Island Development Board is happy to announce the completion of The Tiki Bar. Serving both coffee and tropical fruit drinks, we hope folks will come down and enjoy the lovely atmosphere at The Tiki Bar.

The Sea Turtle Sanctuary

Happy Hugs is rich with aquatic life. The northwest beach is a protected sea turtle habitat. Blathers works with several researchers and students who visit the island to study its sea turtles. Blathers receives the occasional archeologist as well as the northwest beach is also home to Olmec artifacts.
