and figured this was the most appropriate place to post my work in regard to this challenge.

I don't plan on following the general rules to a drawing challenge exactly to a tee, as I am working on several other projects to get my portfolio ready for art school next year and I am additionally focusing on some major life changes that are taking place at the moment. however, I hope to include one or two pieces I create from this list in my portfolio so it won't be counterproductive (as if doodling/drawing ever were such a thing).

to be clear, I won't be completing this list numerically; I plan on using a random number generator to select a number for me to complete. further, i will be taking 2-5 days to complete each one of these as I feel is necessary and at a relaxed pace, as I am not in need of any additional stress.

while I don't have any immediate examples of my work that I am prepared to share, please keep an eye on this thread for new developments. I plan on beginning this challenge tomorrow by randomly generating a number for myself to use, and I will post work-in-progress sketches whenever I can.

if you'd like to take part in this challenge as well, please reply and link to your art thread and I'll be glad to check it out!

thank you for reading, and I hope to see you again soon.

CHALLENGE ONE

Day 1.png

18 - Draw a location in your town

My town is in shambles right now as I am trying to prepare for inevitable plot resetting in very specific spots for my dream villagers. As such, I've placed about 10 fountains around my town in several spots, and random placeholder paths so I don't forget where I want things to go. It is exceptionally ugly.

I may simply draw a spot which I plan on having in my town once it's finished, but I'll brainstorm and post some sketches here when I'm able.

18 - Draw a location in your town

after lots of pondering, I decided to do something a bit more basic than what I initially thought because landscapes aren't one of my strengths.

this is what I have planned for the northern part of my town in the upper left corner. it's very near Mitzi's house and I plan to have a special stump with a path winding through, some regular trees in spring, with blossom leaves littering the walkway and jacob's ladders (or other flowers) around.
at this point, I'm not sure if I should put in my mayor or a villager who lives in my town on the stump or in the background. I would appreciate some feedback if anyone has any!

I will probably be making lots of changes to this as time goes on, but I'm not sure what the finished piece will be drawn on, or in what medium.

thank you again for reading. please check back again!

18 - Draw a location in your town

(this update is a bit late, admittedly;
my husband's brother is visiting us and i didn't get a chance to post today's sketchings)

1sketch3new.jpg

so I changed up the layout and look of the idea i had a bit as I wanted to include the river in this drawing, as the forest-y feel I was going for was a bit overwhelming and I needed something to balance it out a little. additionally, I decided I would add a villager to the image as it would make it 200x more appealing, as, again, landscapes aren't one of the things I'm overly good at drawing so I need to bring the focus away from that fact and put in a focal point. Mitzi seemed to fit that bill perfectly as she lives very near to this place.

after lots of pondering I came up with this:

which is just a bit more detailed version of the former. I need to rework stuff a bit more but I think I ahold of the general feel I'm leaning toward. there will still be lots of changes to come, and I hope I get a chance to work on it some more tomorrow. I have another sketch in the works for another project which is eating up some of my time and I want to be within the 5 day maximum mark I stated in the original post, hahaha.

thanks for reading and taking a peek!

other than a few scribbles I haven't been able to get much of anything done with my brother-in-law staying with us, and tomorrow I'm touring the art school campus. I plan on tucking in finishing at least a rough final draft when I return home, however.

please check back tomorrow!!

I'm not yet prepared to share any drafts, but here's a color test of a cherry tree!

1sketch5.jpg

I was hoping to use the blue as the primary shading color but I'm unsure about the yellow. on the left side, I was interested in using the white space to my advantage to keep the piece as simple as possible. I prefer the left side to the right here, as I started with the right and worked my way left, experimenting as I went; the color is a bit overpowering on the right, in my opinion.
the use of the blue really depends on the way the greens go with it. I'll be dabbling in this a bit more over the next few days.

I think my 2-5 day completion goal is definitely going to be greatly extended for this one. Like I've mentioned before, landscapes are a challenge for me and I'm putting a lot more time into this one than I probably should.

thanks for looking!
