I'm planning on resetting my town, and a friend gave me some advice to help me move my things. Basically, he said that I should make another character in my town right now, store all my stuff inside their locker/house/etc, move to my friend's town, erase my town, and then move in as mayor with the new character. I was wondering, though: Once my character boards the train to start the transferring process, is there any chance to cancel the process? I want to make sure I get a map that I really like, which could mean resetting several times, but I don't want to lose my stuff if I just shut it off or something so I can get another set of maps. Anyone have any experience/advice?

I thought you could only move into another town if there is no save file, so you can't move to your friends town. (I dunno but I could be wrong. :p)
Instead of making a new character and putting your stuff in their house, why don't you just have your friend hold all your stuff, erase your town, create a new town and then keep resetting until you get a good map? That way, you can reset as many times as you want without having to worry.

That's what I thought I was gonna do! But idk my friend said it would be easier to do it the other way. You might be right about the save file thing though, I'm actually not sure. /: I guess we'll see when my friend comes over!

I'm pretty sure you can only move a character to a different game if there's no save file on the new game, so a secondary character can become the mayor of a new game, but can't move into a town that already exists
