Has anyone managed to remove "dead" villagers from Nook Link yet? Nintendo support isn't helping!

I'm sure others have experienced this but if you connect to Nook Link, there's a chance that if you reset your island, your old character is still on Nook Link even if they no longer exist. I have used the same name and almost same exact face for my characters, so the fact that my "dead" characters are still in Nook Link is super frustrating because I click on the wrong face when trying to use the texting feature in the app. Does anyone know how to free these lost souls that are trapped in Nook Link??? For more info, the players you can switch between are found under the settings tab in the Nook Link app. I read the Nintendo help forum and nothing works to remove my "dead" characters.

This also bothers me because i have many former islands. But I haven’t found a way to remove them either :\

I think sometimes they don't program these exterior apps to think about the fact that you might reset your game very well. I actually had a similar problem with Grand Theft Auto V and Rockstar's web site that lets you see your characters' stats, mission progress, etc. I deleted my old game from last year and played through it again very recently, and it wasn't displaying anything correctly.

If Nintendo hasn't done anything about it yet, not sure if they'll bother to fix it, unfortunately.

i don't think there's a way to at all D: i've tried clearing the app's data as well as deleting and reinstalling the app but i think your dead characters' data is linked to your nintendo account

Is there a way to reset its cache, or something? Like a fresh wipe of its data? Might be the only way, unfortunately.

That doesn't work. I've tried it.

Hmmm.. Perhaps unlinking any account (if there are any, I don't use NookLink, so I don't know how it works) before wiping its cache could work? Potentially even fresh install afterwards as well.

I think it's connected to your Nintendo ID.

I also tried logging off and logging back in and they came back, ready to party. I think the only way to truly get rid of them is to make a new Nintendo account.

Yeah...all of my AC characters have either been named Munna June, after my old persona, or Maddie, after my real name...so it's pretty durn confusing trying to get on NookLink 😅

Are you able to unlink it? Unlinking it might erase any data attached to the app, so clearly its cache and/or reinstalling the app might 'refresh' it. If that doesn't work, then the issue unfortunately lies on Nintendo's end with how they handle data as it is likely stored on a server that you cannot access.

Yeah. I logged out, cleared cache and data, logged back in and the old profiles are still there. They are indeed connected to the Nintendo account/ID. Nintendo would have to fix the data issue.

Really unfortunate. I wish companies would give us more control over data instead of having it all in their servers. e-e

I don't have the guts to try it (Or if it's even possible). But has anyone tried deleting their Nintendo account, re-add it from scratch and link your account to switch online to see if they're still there?

Have you tried this? Reddit Q&A
you have to click on the "-" when you lauch the game and then click on the NookLink parameters and then you will be able to change your player (on the new island on the other console) on the app
Nintendo Support
