Has anyone needed to use the back up feature yet?

So my Switch lite broke and I ended up caving and getting a new Switch. Had to contact nintendo, they've found my online backup etc so now I'm waiting for an email to update me on the situation regarding restoring the backup. Don't know how long this could take and it's killing me here?!

Also - is there any reason I couldn't mess around starting a new island whilst I'm waiting and then restore the backup when nintendo have it sorted, or could that mess things up? I don't see why as surely I could just delete the new save whenever? But clueless as to this process as it's so new!

Anyone successfully had their island restored? Any info I could benefit from? Please and thanks!! :D
 
I don't know if the game takes your backup settings from your account, but from what I've heard it updates automatically. I wouldn't risk overwriting your old backup.

Good point wouldn't have thought of that, thanks!! Anyone know if backups are enabled or disabled by default, please? Got it in my head they're disabled in which case am I right in thinking this wouldn't be an issue as the cloud backup would remain unchanged? However not certain what the default is or if I'm right or wrong! Thanks for the help I could easily have missed that!
 
So I read that it's disabled by default, when I messaged nintendo they advised against it regardless as said it could cause issues, but I don't see how if backups aren't enabled? Don't think he fully understood though however I don't want to risk my town but UGH I'm so impatient and love this darn game hahah
 
I’d say just leave it be. Would you rather play a bit and risk losing your game forever or just wait a few days and know that your game will be safe? Seems like an obvious choice to me lol

I am in this dilemma. I had an issue with my save data on the morning of 10th August. I couldn't go any further without restarting... I did an online chat with Nintendo and they say they have a backup of my island from 9th August. I have now been waiting for them to authorise the backup. I too love the game, but the waiting is killing me. I haven't started a new island as I want my old one back so desperately. I was told it shouldn't take too long, but how long is that? I assumed it would be done on the same day... I am still waiting... :-(
I am keen to know when this works for someone else and how long you waited. I used to play every day and I am missing it so badly...
 
Good luck! Mine was restored tuesday afternoon, and I first contacted them friday! Worth noting maybe the weekend slowed things down... have you had any luck yet? To my understanding the backup feature is specifically for when a console has been lost or broken however I'd be surprised if they don't authorise it in your situation as you're not trying to play it on multiple consoles! I'm going to make a thread with the info nintendo sent me which I think will be helpful for many!
