has anyone successfully gotten a villager to entirely get rid of a clothing item from their closet?

i adopted lovely deirdre from someone but she's been wearing one of those awful instant-muscles suits :c if anyone's had luck getting a villager to not wear ugly clothing, i would love to know what you did!

i'm going to try spamming her with cute clothing as gifts in hopes that i'll fill up her """closet inventory""" or something and she'll get rid of her oldest clothing item (this instant-muscles suit) and never wear it again LOL, but we'll see!

OmG I'm so sorry to hear this, I hate when this happens, so I always try my best to get original villagers, but I understand we can't always pick and choose with our dreamies. I always look at their profiles online and try to give them clothing that matches as many of their "likes" as possible. Deirdre likes the color orange and the simple style. I recommend just finding clothes that are orange and simple and gifting them to her. While it isn't guaranteed to get rid of the muscle suit forever, she may eventually ditch it assuming it isn't orange or simple. Static on my previous island got a yellow baby romper from another villager in my town so I gifted him clothes that suited his tastes and he stopped wearing it till the day I reset! Good luck with her!

Nope, my dad gave Roald an yellow instant muscles suit and I’m trying to get rid of it by giving him clothes for the past 2 days because it’s bothering me. I’m sure it will go away if I give him more clothes though.

a villager gave klaus a present once and it was an instant muscles suit QnQ he put it on his wall though, and my friend went in his house and screamed because it looked like a dead person hanging on the wall ;V

A thread similar to this a week or so ago had a comment saying that apparently they gave the villager clothing daily until eventually the villager gave the player the item of clothing they were trying to get rid of. But I’m not sure if that’s confirmed or just a coincidence?

Unfortunately, it only resets the clothing/phrases YOU give and not someone else's.

I'm not sure of any possible way so I can't help in that regard but I have to say it's really weird how much villagers love the instant muscles suit. I gave Cheri one as a joke and she kept it on until she moved out lmao (I didn't let anyone adopt her btw).

Yes, exactly! Maybe it works on custom designs only? Still, very useless for anything else.
