So Jambette asked me to catch her a butterfly, any butterfly, It was snowing so I thought I might have troubles finding her one but then I found an Emperor butterfly and gave it to her, when she got it she said something along the lines of "I can't believe I'm actually holding an Emperor butterfly right now! These are so valuable, are you sure I can have this? Would you like to take it back?" and the game gave me the option if I still wanted to give it to her or if I wanted to take it back, I ended up giving it to her(she gave me a bath-towel wrap in return) I thought maybe this dialogue came because Jambette is a normal villager and normal villagers are arguable the friendliest personality, however I have given Lily, another normal frog, a Sturgeon(worth 10k bells) because I wanted to spoil her and see what happens but I didn't get any special dialogue(ironically I'm pretty sure she gave me a bath-towel wrap in return for that Sturgeon) Has anyone else got the option to give back a "rare" critter they caught for their villager? Has this dialogue always been around or is this new 2.0 dialogue?

I haven't encountered the option to take back a critter, so I want to say it's a new feature, but I'd be interested to know for sure too! 😊

I haven't seen this, but before the update Alice refused to take a bell bag (she's a normal villager too)

I believe even before the update if you gave them something you haven't donated to the museum they would give similar dialogue, could that be the case here?

Your right, I've had my villagers give back critters I tried to gift them that I didn't have in the museum yet insisting I give them to Blathers however this can't be the situation I experienced as I already have all the bugs donated when this happened to me.

Same. I remember that happening a few times. Fossils as well if you haven't donated one, or art.

Yes, this was a thing before and can happen after you have donated everything to the museum. Residents will notice it's an uncommon critter and will feel the need to ask if you really want to give them something so valuable- it's cute.

It seems to be based on the rarity of the critter, not the price- the Sturgeon is a fairly common river mouth fish even tho it's pricey while the Emperor Butterfly is one of the less common butterflies but I don't know the specific criteria to trigger the dialogue. Since we need at least 4 of each bug/fish to complete the museum and catalog on our own, maybe this little confirmation is there to prevent you from giving away those hard to catch critters?
