So I've been really doubting between getting myself the new Animal Crossing themed Switch, or a Switch Lite which I'd personalise with decals. Besides the biggest consideration of being to play on a TV screen, is the consideration of not being able to use the HD Rumble effect. Games make use of it in different ways, and sometimes the rumble really improves gameplay. However in Animal Crossing I've been thinking about what activities would be using HD Rumble and would use it in a way that playing becomes easier or that you'd actually even really need it to be able to play properly.

The only thing I could think of was perhaps fishing (instead of listening for the splash, it could be that you have to wait for a rumble)? Anything else you guys can think of?

And do you think Nintendo would design the game in a way that not having HD Rumble would have a negative effect on your gaming efforts (like not being able to catch certain type of tricky fish?).

(I know I am taking way too many things in consideration for my purchase, but what can I say.. I always doubt every purchase and have such a hard time deciding on anything!)

Wouldn't really effect me since I generally have rumble features disabled due to my tendency to freak out to sudden movements/sensations on myself. But I'm sure if they make use of it, they'll do it in a neat way since that's just how Nintendo works.

Also, don't feel bad about worrying about purchases. It shows you're being responsible with your money. I'm in the same boat considering Nintendo Switch titles, namely Nintendo releases, are 91$ after taxes for me, so its a pretty large purchase.

While fishing might use rumble I'm not sure it will use the HD part of the rumble and more a general rumble. I could see them using the rumble to help find the mole cricket though. In Mario Odyssey, they had a moon where you had to feel the rumble to find the point where you have to stomp the ground. If you didn't have HD rumble the person in the room would tell you if you got nearer or further away from the moon I think, so Nintendo thinks about their different consoles and available features.

That's interesting! I didn't know that about Mari Odyssey as I haven't played it, but it eases my worries about that part a little bit now since it does make sense that Nintendo would not design a game where one of the game activities would not be able to be played if you're on a Switch Lite.. One extra point for the Switch Lite option! Now I only have to worry about the TV screen connection :)

I looked it up again and they replaced the rumble with a screen shake, not the person telling you (with video of the moon): https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSw...e_super_mario_odyssey_rumble_moon_effect_has/

I think HD rumble will be used in NH but it won't be mandatory. In other games, it is a really nice additional feature if you can feel the steps and certain other things very clearly while playing. It might, for example, make catching the mole cricket easier, but so far they used sound and villagers as indication, so it might only be additional if they even use it in that case. For games like 1-2 Switch you need Joy-Cons but that's the tech demo and a different story. You can also still connect Joy-Cons or a Pro controller to your Switch Lite if you feel like it (or want to play 1-2 Switch on a Switch Lite).

HD rumble implementation in games have been pretty disappointing. Especially in Nintendo’s first party games. There really isn’t much “HD” going on, just different rumble strengths. Golf Story, an indie game, probably has the best HD rumble I’ve experienced in any Switch game I’ve played.

i imagine you'd be able to disable it if were an option; i'm pretty sure my time at portia had it but i turned it off as soon as i figured that out lol tbh if thats one of your main concerns i'd still go with the regular switch because if your joycons break on the switch lite, you have to send in the whole console instead of just the joycons. and it'd be pretty sick to play acnh on a big screen; i thought id want a lite instead because i like playing things closer to my face but boy was i wrong!! the games look so good on the tv with a regular switch.

I ended up pre-ordering the special edition full Switch, so not a Lite! Even though I could take the rumble feature off my list of things to consider as a reason not to get a Lite, it ended up just being the overal size and screen size that just seemed to small for me. Happy with my choice! Can't wait to play on the TV too :) And catch fish with the rumble feature ;)
