I got a wacom intuos pro for Christmas. I've been drawing for a while now and I can say, on first impressions, I despise this. It makes me look at my computer screen instead of the tablet itself which, in my opinion, is very counter intuitive. Does anyone have advice for using this? I hate it so far, but I don't want to sound ungrateful and ask to return it for a different one. It's difficult for me to look at the computer screen AND the tablet.

Honestly, it just takes getting used to. When you use a at tablet, you really should only be looking at the computer screen (because there is nothing to look at on the tablet itself) which can be a bit of a learning curve. My only real advice to give you is to just keep using it. It was tough when I got my tablet but now it's like second nature to me. I'm sure you'll get used to it eventually!

Okay, thank you for the advice! I guess I should just start using it more c:

I have the same tablet, what I did was I sat down for at least 10 minutes everyday and just stared straight at the computer screen, drawing circles over and over. You can also close your eyes and doodle on the tablet, then see how it looks on the screen just to imagine that you don't have to look down. You get used to it over time. I was about to turn my tablet in when i was just realizing, hey, I spent 300+ dollars on this, I'm going to make it work. Now I draw almost everyday, it's like a second nature to me. You may feel a little weird going back to paper, actually, but if you use them both consistently, you will be able to master it! :)

if you got the intuos pro instead of a regular intuos, you might wanna return that and get one of the more basic tablets to start out with. tbh the pro version is a huge waste of money unless you're doing art professionally. you will never need that much functionality for things like SAI. i'm in college for graphic design and i still use a basic $60 wacom tablet that has lasted me for years.

screen display tablets, such as the cintiq, are super pricey and run at least $1k for a basic model. they also aren't particularly portable. there are offshoot brands like huion and monoprice who make display tablets for about half that price, and i've heard very positive reviews of them. i personally can't attest for their quality, though.

all tablets have a learning curve to them, even ones with displays. it might take some time, but i've rarely heard of people who absolutely could not work with a tablet.
