Is that a reference to how they used to put the drug in the drink? or the drug itself?

It was a reference to how they used to put it in the drink. Also when I went to see my mother last she leaned over to her friend and asked if he could get her some coke and the way she said it make him think she may have meant the drug so he asked "The drinking kind?".
