Hi there! Currently first time playing an AC game

So hello!
Call me Christopaz.
It's my first time buying an AC game, currently downloading it through e-shop.
I was pretty hyped for it last year but I didn't have resources to buy one.
Now that I just bought one, I'm wondering if I'm too late to join the AC crowd.

I'm also asking for some things, or guides, and questions too:
1) Can you pick where the villagers would place their houses at? Is there a trick for that? I read one but the villager keeps changing, so the odds of the right villager at the right place seems awfully low.
2) What are these triangle glasses or whatever? Any tips on having more options at maps at the start?

I think that's all I can come up for for now.

New Leaf is my first Animal Crossing game, too.

Definitely not late to join the crowd.

In regards to the first question, sounds like you are talking about 'plot resetting.' From what I heard, people who do that might use public works projects to make other areas off limits, so as to increase the probability of the villager's house being set exactly where they want.
