As it seems I'll be spending most of the next year or so in a home office, as the current pandemic shows no signs of subsiding, it's high time to invest in a decent desk and chair setup so I'm not sitting at a desk that's too small in a folding chair.

Anyways, as sort of an initial opinion poll, I thought I'd like to collect some thoughts on your current setup, the pros/cons, and what your recommendations would be on that front.

Cheers.

I don’t work an office job, but my boyfriend does and has a pretty decent set up now given we have no separate office space in the apartment (he’s hanging out in the living room).

He has two company provided monitors and his computer on a card table (the folding kind you can get from a big box store), and a comfy office chair. Aside from that, there’s just a shelf nearby so he can organize papers. He’s not really into interior design so the space is kind of plain, but for him that works since it’s less distracting. If it were me, I would have some small trinkets whose sole purposes are to make me laugh or smile.

The main advantage to his placement is that he’s in an alcove-type space; there’s a small area of the wall that juts outwards which cuts him off slightly from the sitting area. This helps him get into the working mindset, since the comfy couches and TV are not 100% in his field of view.

For what it’s worth, my advice would be to create a space that is distinct from the rest of your house/apartment so you can enter a working type headspace when you want to. But also don’t put pressure on yourself to work 8 hours non-stop. Take small breaks; you would’ve done this at the office by chatting with others, grabbing a coffee, etc... so don’t stop now :)

I have a 25 year old desk, very uncomfortable chair, and a huge expensive cat tree. 10/10 would recommend.
