Animal crossing has always been like the sims except you control your town on top of the houses. HHD seems to be EXACTLY like the sims now and I loved the sims and I love animal crossing but I can't seem to get enough excitement to want to buy this game. How good is it? Does it feel like the sims or more like a showcase of houses? Do you have to go back and maintain them and stuff?

I've never played any of The Sims, but from what I know about it - It's nothing like the Sims. The Sims actually has your characters doing stuff. The animals don't really do much in HHD. This game is really just about decorating houses and buildings. That's it.

If anything they are nothing alike, the only general thing they share is they have a design aspect.

In the sims you create a family, can work, cook etc. You can design a house and if you download content it leaves more to design with. You interact with other sims,

But in animal crossing you assign the villagers work, but there isn't much to their dialogue. You obviously don't have to care for yourself and your work is to design one house or building a day, and while you can visit animals at their home they rarely change what they say and hardly much else happens.

You don't have to maintain the houses at all, in fact you never have to visit them again if you don't want to. If you like animal crossing, and if you're someone who enjoyed decorating in new leaf then I'd recommend it.

One thing the sims and animal crossing have in common though, they both get extremely repetitive. But the main difference is the sims has tons of custom content so you can always add to how you want to design, where as animal crossing once you unlock everything that's it. You may have some dlc items but it's not like it's anything to drastically add to your game

I hope that helps!

The main thing in HHD is pretty much Animal Crossing: Sims Buy mode. With unlimited money. And 400 houses to decorate. If you like designing houses in the Sims and want to do that with Animal Crossing items, then you'll enjoy this. This game doesn't have the main gameplay (playing the lives, working, earning money and stats) that you get with Sims.

If you liked the architecture profession in the Sims 3, then you'll like Happy Home Designer ~ especially since you have an unlimited budget (you don't have money at all in the game except for decorating purposes), like Jinglefruit said; in the Sims 3, you'd sometimes have to cut into your own budget to design your clients's houses. Happy Home Designer appealed to me because of the fact that the gameplay reminded me of the profession in the Sims 3 (and I freaking miss playing that game, but alas, my computer takes forever to load it, so, no more Sims 3 for me until I get a better computer :().

You build facilities as well as character's homes as everyone has stated; you can visit the buildings just like you can visit the villagers' homes, but since you have no money in the game (as well as the obvious fact it's not part of the gameplay), you can't shop at the stores you build.

I rarely used (or knew how to make) custom designs in the Sims 3 and personally, I was never that great at designing houses (plus, I'd be in more of a hurry to play the game rather than try to make a perfect house).

I recommend you to not base your decision whether to get HHD or not, on whether it's like The Sims or not since they're nothing alike besides the fact you design houses and I believe designing houses in this game is more simplified and limited than it was in The Sims.

New Leaf and Happy Home Designer combined could perhaps be compared to the Sims but not just HHD alone. HHD is solely about home designing - there's very little interaction with the villagers and no budgeting whatsoever as you unlock things very quickly and don't have to pay for them. It's a cute relaxing little game where you essentially "collect" the villagers you design houses for but there isn't much else to it.

I bought this game because of my love of Sims paired with my love for ACNL, so if you like both of those games I think it'd definitely worth it to buy. Its not exactly like it of course, but I love designing houses so I enjoy the game, yeah there is repetition in the designs, and you have "required" items and they ask for themes, but it's very free and when you re-do the houses you don't need the required things so you can basically do what you want.

Honestly it's not too much like the sims aside from the design aspect... but designing was always one of my favorite parts of the sims so if that's the same for you too you will probably like HHD :)
