How do I make a .xcf image upload on an image hosting site?

With GIMP on a mac, it saves all files as a .xcf. Sometiems I can upload it on an image hosting site, but sometiems I can't. I really want to post a photo, but it won't upload. Can I do something to make it upload?

Save it as a .png, or .gif if it's animated. I believe .xcf only makes it available to open in GIMP in all its layers.

You have to save it as PNG.

File -> Export as -> Filename.png
