I believe you get bells every time you make a post e.g. by writing this message you should have gained some bells.

Generally being active on the forum earns you TBT bells. You also get 100 bells on your birthday, and you can earn interest if you leave them in your ABD (check the shop to find this).

Some people like to sell art and in-game items for TBT bells.
