This is a question I just asked myself. I'm under the impression that the villagers are all adults considering they're able to live in houses by themselves (and Zucker told me that he isn't allowed to drive anymore, so this implies that the lazies are at least old enough for that stuff). However, despite the game giving a huge impression that they're like virtual buddies, the amount of times they ask me to do things for them makes me wonder if they're more like virtual kids to me. It's almost like my island is the playpen, and the villagers who move in are the new subjects I'll have to babysit until they wanna move away. Then again, there are adults who are like kids at heart (Spongebob would be a cartoon example).

How do YOU guys see your villagers?

I definitely see my villagers as adults and not like children to me. That... idea just seems super weird to me, no offense, lol. I just see them as kind of lazy adults, and my character as pretty ambitious and helpful, and so they naturally kind of take advantage of her kindness at times. But they also give random gifts, so they're not THAT moochy. It's just a chill island with lots of chill adults who pal around together. Though some definitely seem older/younger than others- like Dobie seems old, and a lot of lazies/normals seem young. Like, I know a lot of people "ship" Raymond and Lolly because they're both grey cats, but that just seems SO wrong to me! She strikes me as so naive and youthful and he seems so mature and kind of crafty that it just feels totally inappropriate, lol.

Well I have a crime lord, a small child, a homeless person, a young tech start up guy, literally Satan... you can say my villagers have a range of stories going on
I'm going to have to know which villager is Satan, please and thank you.

For my island journal, I gave each of my villagers roles and even am/was writing a small story though. I am reconsidering that now since I’ve been doing some thinking and am starting to think it was a mistake to turn it into a story. I have a bard, pirate emperor, commander, wealthy merchant, diplomat, accountant, warrior, farmer.

I guess I view them as adults. I never thought about it much. They have a house and are living on their own, so yeah.

In NL, I saw them as really good friends to me in spite dialogue repeating there too. Probably more so than I ever did in Nh even when I was still playing a lot since they visited my house and commented on furniture and Idk I guess some of the dialogue seemed nicer and more supportive (like self esteems boosts) than the dialogue in Nh has felt to me.

In NH, atm, I don’t know how I view them beyond what I said since I am having difficulty maintaining my interest in playing.

That’s an interesting question that I haven’t really thought about. I don’t know if I consider my villagers to have ages because age was never really important for me. I do have a dog and wolf island. It consists of eight dogs and two wolves. I consider the two wolves to be the leaders of the pack. All of my villagers also fit into the orange-brown color scheme. I chose my villagers very carefully and I’m happy with my group.

A sacrifice has been made to our deity
That wouldn't have been my first guess... but I totally see it now, lol.

I also have backstories for my villagers, but they're less dramatic (though I do have a haunted house on my island with it's own spooky backstory- though not as spooky as the stories I usually write, lol). Like, when I had Vic, my idea for him was to be a shipwreck survivor who was the "first" villager on Woodland (not really the 1st, obviously, but in my head the 1st) who put together a small home for himself then watched the island grow into a proper town around him (I'm actually considering bringing him back because I loved his story so much 😆) I also remember having Cleo on my island and I remember seeing her as a budding internet entrepenuer (too lazy to look up the right spelling RN 😅) based on how her house was set up. I also set up a small flower shop stall for Ursala to run while she was on my island, based on her house/RV set-up in ACNL (considering bringing her back, too, since she's my favorite villager in general- also will be easy to bring her back since I have her Amiibo). And, while not a complete backstory, I 100% saw Julia as trans and loved it. And, while Merry didn't have a proper story ON my island, when she moved out (after having her for months as one of my first villagers), I didn't adopt her out when I moved her out because, in my head, she went on to become a TRUE popstar. I even did a photoshoot to show the story:

Which reminds me- Coach, who's in that first pic (the pics go from top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) was not my favorite villager at first. In fact, I really didn't like him much. But he quickly grew on me and I ended up seeing him as a retired coach who came to Woodland to retire... but still ended up trying to coach and inspire the locals out of habit.

I've had more stories, too, but those are all I remember for now, lol

I see all my villagers somewhere in their twenties, and have little back story, characters for each of them.

My guys all have a few roles on my island, also relationships to each other.
--
Marshal has a bit of a princely attitude, with his hair always looking it's best. Kid Cat, or Cat as everyone calls him, is a bit of a dunce. Also is in a relationship with Marshal. Cat met Marshal on the ride here. They started dating as a joke, but are full on boyfriends now

I see Static's lightning mark on his head as hair, which is the same colors, and only sometimes brushed. Raymond is collected, not easily aggravated, very reasonable. Hes been in a relationship with Static for awhile. They met before the island, Stayic had to be convinced to come to this random island. Static loves pushing Marshal in the water for his own amusment, and as a result Marshal doesnt like him, for ruining his hair, and clothes

Genji already succeeded in becoming a martial arts master, much to his Rival's distaste. He moved to the island to stay by Filbert's side. Who I see as a squirrel who stays up late to look at the stars. He wears his hair in hair clips and small ponytail. He gave Genji a blue ribbon that is tied around Genji's ear, for luck.

Bruce is moody, a bit of a rebel who would rather be on his own, and pulls out a cig. He secretly really likes golf, has double piercings on both ears. Lopez followed him around, and charmed him enough to be partners. Which Bruce didnt expect to be lasting this long. Lopez has his hair curled up. His tail curled, and very charismatic as much as he is flirty. Hes got a single silver piercing on his ear

Chief wears a pink scarf, and likes to be on his own in his own thoughts often writing. Poems mainly, but would rather avoid being social. He wrote a poem for Sherb, who I'd his partner. Sherb is less of a dunce then Cat, but is still not crazy bright. He loves all wild life, has a large collection of his own. Gifts Chief them.

(Still as animals, not humans

None of them are who they seem to be. I see their appearances different too, and they all help/ are apart of what our island is known for. Also what we all have in common with each other.

Ok I'm gonna stop before I keep getting carried away lol 😅 I could go on for hours.but have to hold back the spoilers too lol

I think of lazies as the youngest ones.
Crankies being the oldest (especially Dobie).
Uchi and Peppy are highschoolers.
Smugs are young adults (adulting mode).
Snooty as sophisticated ladies.
Jocks are late teens to mid-twenties.
Normal as mature young adults.

I haven't really thought of giving them backstories or roles.
