How does one generally appropriate value on in game transactions? (Supply & Demand)

I'm curious about what is generally acceptable for in game transactions. I read up on the stickied post regarding keeping the playground (Forum) fair from exorbitant prices and/or sales, requests etc., by taking advantage of any unintended glitches (Previously the duplication glitch). Now I am not sure how people taking advantage of time traveling for IGBs or other reasons is accepted. To my knowledge this is not considered an unfair advantage as time traveling is intended (Game design) and anyone can do this with little effort. Regardless, in doing so the market is and can be flooded for those who participate in a community with transactions (Forum)

Reading threads over the last few days I have seen all kinds of examples of trades. 100k IGB for a 10 stack of fishing bait, 200k IGB for Nook Tickets to include people agreeing to buying 14 tickets for 2.4 million IGB from one seller alone.

A common request I see, is villager transactions, and think about the work a seller would have to go through setting that up if the villager in question was not currently "moving out" (to include proper prevention of a reported villager transaction glitch).

I know a transaction is always what a buyer and seller agrees on, however has anyone noticed any generically acceptable supply and demand trends for all types of transactions, or am I asking the question to early because the game is brand new.

I would prefer to avoid anything crazy. As an example if someone said they wanted a villager, and stated "name the price", how am I supposed to reasonably respond to that?

1 million IGB?
100k IGB?
10 million IGB?

What about other transaction types?

Or am I thinking to hard, should just name my buy or sell prices, and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Thanks!

Just go around to different shops and threads for the item/villager in question to try and gauge a pricepoint. From there, proceed to make a reasonable offer. That's what I generally do. But honestly; don't overthink it. Just throw out an offer, and if the seller agrees/disagrees they'll tell you. As for "exorbitant" prices, just don't offer anything ridiculous for a certain item and you'll be fine (example would be like 1m per nook mile ticket). Also, this is the wrong place for this kind of thread; should've posted this in the general Animal Crossing New Horizons subforum.

I don't think TTing would have a negative impact upon the market, as you said It's an element of the game that is part of its design. The only difference is that people would be having access to items much earlier by time traveling than by playing the game day to day... And in doing that, those people could set up what they think a fair or normal amount is for whatever items they are selling or trading. An example of this would be how some people have begun selling the Sakura items which you can start getting in April, despite it still being March! I know the Japanese playerbase has also had some players TT and get full catalogs already.

Another thing to take in consideration is time spent for items. DIY-exclusive items can take longer if materials required for the DIY are more scare (see the wands, for example). Nook mile tickets are farmed out by achievements and the quest-like things you have to get to farm miles, hence why I think nook miles go for so much -- They're also used to farm islands to find villagers people want.

You're right that the dupe-glitch drastically affected the market and this can easily be seen when it comes to popular villagers. But I think people here have also been trying to be more mindful of that and fair to other players who also come here and can't afford things because of that price inflation. I personally think you'll always find kind souls out there who will be willing to help others out with whatever it is! I don't think its bad you're thinking this much about it, it is an interesting topic to discuss --

But at the end of the day, I think you'll be able to find the things you want to find and come to an agreement with whoever you're buying/trading with! If you don't catch some sales or they seem unfair, I can assure anyone that someone else out there will be willing to accommodate or be more fair!

tl;dr cool topic, market inflation is a thing, so is effort put into certain items, but nice people are out there to make deals with or help people out! you just have to find the right people :)

also yes lol i agree this wasn't the right place to put this! i wonder if a mod would be able to move the thread, i'm sure more people would be willing to engage in this conversation otherwise!
