How to get buildings straight from each other

Im having a hard time moving some of my villagers houses, and some of the shops because I can't seem to get them straight from each other and I'm wondering how others do this?

If you're going for a row of houses, walk up to a villager's door and walk directly left or right about 6~ "tiles" and walk down 1, then turn around and it should line up properly.

Try putting down paths that line up with the other house(s) and it should help you. When you're setting up plots for the first time it's hard to tell, but it should be easier later when the preview it gives is of the actual house?

At the beginning, I put items on the ground (like fruit) in a line. But now that I have terraforming, I build a temporary single-tile row of cliffs where I want the back of their houses to be, and just line the houses up along the cliff.
