How to get more villagers

Hiya! This is probably a super basic question, and I may be getting ahead of myself here, but how do I get more than the 2 starting villagers? I'm seeing posts and conversations here about people having all kinds of villagers already, just on day 2! @.@ Do they move in naturally like in New leaf?

I’m in the same boat as you but I was able to get one more villager by asking them to move in when I visited a random island using nook miles so maybe keep going to islands until we reach 10 villagers?

Have you unlocked the airport? Once you're able to book flights, you buy tickets with Nook Miles and travel to other islands to recruit & bring materials, fruit, flowers, etc. to your island.

You don't really start getting villagers until your third day.

you can invite villagers from nook mile islands - some people playing are on day three, where you pick three villager plots. this will include villagers you've invited from islands, so if you don't invite any villagers from there, the three additions will be random.

Yes! You can invite them from the islands and as pumpkins said if you fail to do so then the three plots will be random. So far I haven't seen any villagers after that on the island though - I think they come from campsite hence forth when you unlock it!
